Still in the game

Today i ran in the door yelling nothing but bills! We are now celebrating no news. My DS is now at stage of scared to go to mailbox so we are cheering for no news. So few have posted on TWE we just assumed they havent gone out yet beyond those who didnt finish application etc

The toughest thing about going to the mailbox is that all of our other mail comes in the TWE form so you have to slowly unveil the the return address and pray it doesn't say anything about Navy. I have never been so excited to see credit card bills in my life.

I remember earlier in February my mom nearly collapsed when she saw "DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY" plastered on an envelope regarding NROTC. She is by far 5x more anxious than I am hahaha. I am actually finding myself to be less and less anxious as the weeks go on. Beginning of January I was biting by nails, but now... I know for sure that it's getting close, which by itself is relieving (at least to me.)

I'm really enjoying reading that you are ll have a love/hate relationship with the snail mail like we do. Just about a month ago, we received a TWE from the USNA. I was freaking out and DS was going to be gone at sea cadets for two more hours. So, I did what any anxious, freaking out latent would do. I stuck the envelope in the freezer so that it would be easy to open. Yes, this was after trying to hold the envelope up to the light. I managed to get the envelope open.....invitation to a forum. All that worry and anxiety for nothing.

Great story, we experienced the dreaded invitation to a forum scare like you did. My wife called me and we immediatley began to come up with a story to tell our son how somehow we didnt realize who it was from and accidentally opened it. That has got to be the cruelest trick because they are sent to our kids at a very crucial time and way past the time they would go to a forum.

I fell for that trick twice! Once with the admissions forum invite and again with the NROTC rejection letter ( we already knew from an email). I aged ten years each time!

The same thing happened to us with a letter in early January that turned out to be an acknowledgement that DS had applied for the VP nomination. My son just deflated when he saw the envelope and I kept saying, "No, no, it's too early for that! Just open it."

Of course, we laughed later, and it is good to know we are not the only ones who have reacted that way! Sometimes this whole process really gets to you.

We got two of those TWE's in mail in January. they were shortly after he got his Nom. they wanted his BMI for the first and after we sent that back we got another. heart attack.......but was just another letter saying thank you for sending back the info. If we get a third TWE it will be the bearer of bad news I am sure. Third time will not be a charm so hoping for the BFE instead!

We got the VP nom acknowledgement letter and the NROTC letter. Heart attack each time. The mail has become the sole focus of our day. Too bad it comes late in the day! I just keep saying to DS at least you are still in the game.

Yep I too got the VP letter and was crushed. I thought that it was too early to be receiving the TWE, especially since the envelope looked "official".

It's so good to hear that I'm not alone!! We got the NROTC reject letter this week - thought it was from the Academy until I saw the watermark for NROTC on the back of the envelope! We were (are) crushed that it's a reject...

I read on USNA Admissions Facebook page that they like to give the Congressmen time to call those who are accepted, before sending out acceptance letters. So now we're checking the mail AND waiting for a call. I must be getting an ulcer from the stress!!!!

this is good for a chuckle!

So we are in the waiting game just like many....waiting for our Congressman to call, who gave my son the nomination. So, we are sitting watching TV one night and the caller id that shows up on our TV reads...Congressman XXX....so of course I freak out!!! I answer the phone and.....wait for it......it was a recorded message letting us know he was going to be in town for a "town hall meeting" with his constituents.....sigh

My DS was initially applying to both USMA and USNA. He was nominated to both. After alot of research and talking to his dad, a USMA alumni, and several USNA grads he decided to rescind his application to West Point. The Navy seemed like a better fit (sorry dad). This was early on in the process, but we still have not received the expected TWE from USMA, makes me even more nervous waiting for the USNA response. You would think if they did not want you or you didn't finish the application, they would let you know right away. Anyone else have this happening?

Yes - my DS also had started with applications to both USMA and USNA. He decided on USNA and had that application done in September (except for NOM) He never finished USMA and did not get a NOM to USMA and still no TWE from USMA. Not sure how to feel about that one - but today's mail has come and no TWE from USNA - so that much is good news. Still in the game.....

Another no mail day - good or bad. The wait goes on, DS is getting frustrated as his application has been complete forever! All he wants is to make plans for I-day.

The highlight of the dog's day has always been the mail truck since the mailman always throws him a biscuit. As soon as he hears the truck round the corner, he barks and runs around in circles. Now my sons and I are as excited about the mail truck as the dog is, only he gets a biscuit every day and we get nothing!

My son also started an application to USMA but didn't finish it. I am not expecting a TWE from them as he was application was not completed and he wasn't an eligible candidate. I could be wrong, but if the application wasn't complete I wouldn't expect a TWE.

Nothing for us today, either. 34 mail deliveries brings us to April 15.

TWE looking envelope that was from Dodmrb stating DD was medically qualified for USMA. Just had a 1 or 2 heart beat skip. Her USMA app was completed much later than USNA so forgot she had gotten one of those earlier for USNA. Whew........still waiting
