Just a curious question. Did any of you who are waiting to hear from NROTC receive an appointment to any of the Academies?:

Two nominations but no appointment... yet. Still hopeful.

As stated in prior posts, this is one of the most lopsided candidate cycles I have seen in 10 years.

Naturally... it makes the ride that much more exciting. Wait... did I hear the mailman? Gotta run...

Sorry for not understanding....please explain the meaning of "one of the most lopsided candidate cycles I have seen in 10 years".

HAHAHAAAA Knarf...good one!! That made me chuckle out loud!! Wish I was home for the mailman...(but I am sure he is glad(mailman) that I am NOT!!! LOL!!) Older son gets home from college about time mailman makes his rounds....so HE is stalking mailman for us...LOL!! Son is really losing heart regarding lack of appointment thus far...felt really bad for him this AM, tried to keep his spirits up....:frown:

"We are sorry, you were not selected for a scholarship. You will receive a letter explaining other options available to you."

Best of luck to all who wait.

Subdude, Sorry to hear that your daughter received this news. Best of luck to her in the future.

Wow!

Sorry Subdude, truly. I am guessing by your username that you were (are?) a submariner. My husband too... Best regards to your daughter, after all this waiting I know it's not the message you guys wanted. I too am interested in the remark by the blue and gold officer about the skewed numbers this year. It almost appears that more of the students going for the academies are getting their appointments versus those going for ROTC scholarships... but then that is just an observation derived from reading these forums.

Subdude...just got the same message myself. I do have my Army ROTC 4 year to Arizona State so I will be taking that. But I know after all this waiting...that's a very hard message to read. I am sorry for your daughter. Did she apply for any of the other ROTC scholarships?

Thanks Lesrunmore...yes I am a former enlisted submarine nuke...8-1/2 years.

Nope, no other services, just NROTC and USNA. The thing that I don't really get is that she is SQ for USNA and received a nom....but isn't deserving of an NROTC scholarship. At this point it's hard to not expect the worst, that she won't get an appointment to USNA now (even though we know that the two things, USNA/NROTC are not related).

My son has received an appointment to the USMMA. He has been accepted to A&M and another school, has been offered a full ride at the other. He went to the recruiter office to do the NROTC application, and they were very excited about his app. But here we sit hearing zip from the NROTC; but I understand it must be a helluva lot of work to match all these kids up. But when my son learned about the sea year at the MMA that seems to have won him over, his final decision will be after he sees the MMA

I too have just checked my nrotc page and recieved this message. and i'll admit, i am quite heated. I was told multiple times, from both the recruiter that helped me fill out my application and his superior that I was almost guaranteed to get this scholarship.

so my question to everyone out here is why? why is it that they think i am (to quote the recruiter) "a shoe in" for the scholarship yet the board denied me? and i know they arent related, but might i also add that i recieved a nom to USNA?

Not happy.

Sounds like we both come from a similar background. I'm former enlisted subs ... Sonar Tech (fast attack)... 8 years (74-82).

Keep pressing forward and have your daughter keep sending updates to her app. My daughter hasn't heard from NROTC either but USNA is the ultimate goal!

Rule 1: Never believe your recruiter
Whether your recruiter actually thought you were a "shoe in" or not, his job is not to award scholarships....it is to keep you motivated to complete the NROTC application and supply all the necessary documents. Sorry you were not selected for a NROTC scholarship, hopefully it is because they want you so badly in the USNA. :thumb:
