Tried to search but didn't find this specific answer. Does a contracted AROTC cadet receive his or her monthly stipend for the entire year, or do the payments cease during the summer months? Thanks

You only receive your monthly stipend during the regular school year; so unfortunately you will not be paid over the summer.

    ... that'd be nice though.

Thompson is correct. If you're NROTC (at least) you do get paid for summer training. I expect the other services are the same for required summer training sessions. Wouldn't venture to guess about the volunteer stuff.

Thompson is correct, for AROTC the stipend is only paid for the time you are at school.

You will get paid when your at LDAC
You get paid if you go to CULP
You get per diam money for travel expenses for summer training.

Just so everyone reading this thread does not get confused - this DOES NOT include any form of schooling during the summer, only applies during the REGULAR school year (Aug-May).

My son was paid his monthly stipend last summer while attending full-time. However, he was NOT paid his stipend last Fall (his last semester). He was told by his cadre that it was based upon the number of semesters, not necessarily number of years in school.

Infantrymom is correct, you can go to school summer semester and your scholarship will cover tuition and the stipend, it will however count as one of your 8 semesters.

Just to caveat on Jcleppe (he is correct), the way it's structured is for MSI's and II's, your stipend will pay 10 or so months (whatever is exactly in the contract). Once you become an MSIII, it pays 12 months per year. Unless you do the summer school thing and use that as one of your semesters.

Wait, your school pays the stipend to MS3's, for 12 months, the school year and then over the summer? That must be something new.

I know this about AROTC, but for AFROTC 300 which I think is the equivalent of an MSIII, they get paid yr round from when they contract as a 300 Fall) until they commission 18 months later, even if they don't attend training during the summer.

Than again this yr they are messing with the AFROTC stipend so who knows if this will hold true in the future.

... oh, I thought stipend only covers something like 9/12 months. Thought I read that on one of the papers; guess not!
