The real soldier's got to settle down a little at the end. No need to yellow profanities through a mall in the name of your service.

Interesting stuff though, being caught in a lie. Hard to make a quick retreat.

Also gets interesting when a service member wears unauthorized medals or ribbons.

I don't REALLY know how to pick out everything that's wrong on an Army, Air Force or Marine uniform, but a bad Coast Guard or Navy uniform would stand out to me. It can be PAINFULLY obvious to everyone but uniformed civilians.

Yeah he got heated at the end and his lady (I assume his wife) stepped in at the right time. When he started talking about his friends passing got the better of him.

Same here, I can spot something wrong on an AF uniform a mile away but the other branches I'm clueless.

As a Ranger I have seen this type of thing time and time again. I never understood the mentality. I wanted to be a Ranger so I joined the Rangers, maybe I did it the wrong way.

The original post points out something that always amazes me- why is it that most of these imposters look like the kind of guy who would be an imposter? I mean really - how many Bubblebutts are 11B SSGs in the Ranger Regiment? That guy would catch the eye of every grunt in America, and then the rest of the stuff (the CIB with multiple awards first off) would then confirm it. What a toad.

I do wonder though why this has become such a huge deal? For the most part- who really cares about these nitwits? Why would you go out of your way to worry one way or the other about them unless they are publicly "slapping you in the face" with it like this guy was, illegally making money off the deal or are politicians making false claims, or something of that ilk. There are a few folks out there who really seem to make exposing this their life's work, but for the most part it seems like a huge tempest in a teapot and when somebody is that fanatatical about something like this- I gotta wonder about them too?

I'm glad to see the guy get called out.

He should have kept his composure at the end but i can't blame him in his emotion.

It's a disrespect to those who have earned the right to wear the uniform and its merits.

Apathy----We have become a country of "who cares". It shows in everything in this nation.

I find it interesting on these forums..

It seems like the poser covered his tracks pretty well -- seems like he knew what he was talking about in the beginning -- almost believed him. :frown:

You have to have some guts to dress up for something you never did, develop a story around that, and then make up crap facts on the fly when someone confronts you. Of course, he's digging the whole deeper and deeper, but he's certainly answering the questions with "authority." The CIA should give him a call!

I have no idea what goes through peoples minds. I'm amazed when it's someone who has even fooled their family. You see family talking about what a big hero they are.... and it's all a lie. That's really hard on the loved ones around them who don't know any better, but have a lot of pride in them.

Oh.... and it's dumb.... to lie.

this is not only disgusting and pathetic, its also now a federal crime. People will do whatever they are allowed to get away with so in my view these dbags need to be humiliated and shouted down at every opportunity; once a few of them get thrown in jail or get their butts whipped by a mob this will stop pretty quick.

There was one incident with the guy in a USMC uniform (I though about putting that in quatations.... it was a poor excuse for a uniform in any U.S. service)....

... and it turned out the guy was actually a USN vet. Weird.

I received two medals and 10 ribbons while I was in the Coast Guard. I topped out at a very typical "Coast Guard Achievement Medal". I feel no need to wear any of what I received and wouldn't even consider wearing something I didn't earn.

I guess if someone asked me to wear the medals with a tux at a wedding I would.... and I've thrown on the lapel pin of the ribbon medal on Veterans Day and the Coast Guard's birthday..... but just making up a uniform? HA!

The other thing that doesn't make sense to me.... there are guides on wearing uniforms and the uniform manual are UNCLAS.... it would take a 30 second Google search and a little reading to wear them the right way. Maybe there's a shortage at their local Army Navy Surplus?
