I was just accepted to a program where I would attend school in Hong Kong for 2 of my 4 college years (Sophomore and Senior year). Is it possible to still participate in AROTC? Are their international battalions?

Thank you in advance for any insight.

Have you asked the cadre at your battalion? I will tell you that at my DS' battalion cadets are e courage to study abroad but only MS2 and MS4 years. Not sure about the entire year. Remember that one of the ways to build your OML is leadership within the battalion. You're going to eliminate 4 semesters where you could work on that. As a parent, I would encourage you to do everything possible to go. Sounds like a great opportunity.

I'll make sure to talk to them. This program will be life changing but I don't want to postpone my military involvement by 4 years until OCS.

    ... OCS?

I hope you understand that ROTC is, for lack of better words, equivalent to OCS.

Yes, but I would not be involved with OCS starting my freshman year like I would be with ROTC. My understanding is that ROTC is also better for branch selection.

You're still not getting my point, unless I'm misunderstanding something, you either are doing ROTC or OCS. You don't do both.

Yes I understand that - I apologize for not being clear in my post. If I attend school abroad I will be unable to participate in ROTC so I will have to do OCS instead. I find that disappointing because I wouldn't be able to start my military career path until after graduation whereas I could start ROTC freshman year.

Pro tip: Don't get too excited to grow up.

Meh ... I wouldn't exactly/necessarily consider ROTC the start to your "military career path."

The Military isn't as glamorous as Hollywood makes it out to be.

Enjoy it while it lasts; especially the little things.
