Summer Seminar 2013!

I GOT IN! all the hard work seems to have paid off. I am attending session B but will be there the week prior as well for XC Camp. Any other session B'ers?

DD is in. Not sure which session she will take. She is still waiting to hear from West Point and USNA for summer results.

The wait is over for this one, but at least 2 more to go (trying to decide what to do about AIM since she has other July plans).

Congrats to those in. Keep hope for those waitlisted. For those not selected, do remember that it is in large part a recruiting tool. Meaning, if you come from a family or school with USAFA in its recent history, they may have opted to give someone with no USAFA connection the summer spot to come experience it. Not getting in has NO relationship to a possible appointment from what we hear. Kids from dd's school almost never get into USNA summer seminar, but consistently gain appointments.

I got in as well! Really excited.

Someone should link us a Facebook group!

good luck to those who got in, we didn't, will still try to become a cadet. AFA is still number one, my daughter still hopes to get into the NASS or Coast Guard Summer Seminar. on to the next.

Congratulations to all who were accepted. See you guys in June!

2013 Summer Seminar

There were 3530 applicants and 600 selected. So excited my daughter was one of them!!

FYI guys...

It's good to get to know each other ahead of time and everything, but the chances of being in the same element as someone you meet on here in summer seminar are slim. Believe me, they'll keep you so busy, you'll have a hard enough time just keeping track of yourself! If anyone has questions about the seminar like specific questions about doolie for a day or anything, I went last year, so feel free to PM me or post a question on here.

I was not selected. I feel like my dreams and plans have all been crushed.

If you would let a small setback like this, if it even is a setback, crush you... then I wouldn't recommend applying to an academy. Also, another recommendation... read "Lone Survivor" by Marcus Lutrell... it will teach you what it means to never give up.

What was your experience with the SS? Did it affect your views on your future?

What was your experience with the SS?
This is a broad question. Do you have anything specific you'd like to ask?
Did it affect your views on your future?
If you are wondering whether or not it helped me decide which academy was for me, I would say, yes and no. If you guys have the chance, definitely take the opportunity to go to more than one summer seminar! Last year I was fortunate enough to be accepted to all three, although I was only able to attend West Point and AFA. Prior to the summer seminars, I was dead set on only shooting for the Air Force Academy, but after going to West Point's seminar as well, my mind set was completely changed! They are both amazing academies! There is so much that you will learn about the academies when you attend summer seminar. As I am now waiting to see if I will receive appointments from both the Air Force Academy and West Point, my greatest advice is to attend more than one seminar if you can, and keep an open mind! Had I not attended the West Point summer seminar, I can almost guarantee that I would not have even applied for West Point... But now, here I am just a few days away from knowing whether it not I will receive my appointment to West Point.

I mean that is an extreme exaggeration, thats just how I felt initially. I was kind of in shock. I was sure I'd get in. But I'm just using this setback as motivation for the CGA and then the real AFA application.

Don't be so hard on yourself...and keep this all in perspective.

Remember, these SS are in part recruiting tools. If you come from a high school with a track record of AFA appointments or a family with AFA background or even an area of the country with AFA as an often applied option...well, then it could be that you did not get in because they are aware that you already know of the academy and have a good sense of what it has to offer. If you think perhaps you did not get in because of grades, leadership, sports or SAT scores, then you know what to work on.

Finally, as is posted on the board again and again...A LOT Of people who get rejected from SS get into the academy. In addition, those who get in (including my dd) should in no way feel that an appointment is now in the bag.

This is a long process for you all. Keep your chin up. I believe the NASS and AIM applications are still available, if you are interested in those.

Of the two SS you attended, which was more physcially demanding and which kept you active (busy with not a lot of down time), in general for more of the time?
Also, did one or the other place more of an emphasis on the admissions process?
Finally, you mentioned getting into 3. Any specific reason you did not apply to USCG's AIM program?

Thanks in advance for the insight.
