On the Application, I have a question regarding what is considered civic involvements. This is what the application states:

"3) Civic Involvements
•Are you involved in any community organizations? (Habitat for Humanity, 4H, Scouting, etc.)
•Have you been a leader in a community organization?
•What experiences/skills did you develop?"

Do national honor societies / community service organizations count as a "community organization"? Such as National Honor Society or Beta Club. Also, since scouting is considered a community organization, does that imply that JROTC would as well, because of the similarities?

My understanding of this would be that they are looking for extra-curricular activities outside of school. So, any non-school sponsored community service.

When I completed the application, I generally wrote about extracurricular activities involving community service. There are plenty of other places for you to include National Honor Society and JROTC. Also, don't worry even if you can't really think of anything to put into this category, they're looking at your application as a whole at not just at specific sections.

Thank you for all the feedback!
@USMAROTCFamily:
That is how I first interpreted it as well. But then there would be no spot to put in-school community service. For example, I have over 300 community service hours, but all of it was while participating in JROTC or Beta Club sponsored activities. One thing that's important to note is that "Habitat for Humanity" was an example. Well what if my community service was at Habitat for Humanity but was facilitated by Beta Club (this was the case because a lot of the service events simply link Beta Club members to organizations that need an extra hand)?

@littlefish:
Like you said, for this section I will write about my extra curricular activities that involved community service. But if I have over 160 hours from JROTC sponsored community service events, wouldn't it make sense to note that? I do see your point about putting them in other spots.

So would writing about JROTC community service briefly in this section be too excessive since I am already planning to write about my positions in JROTC for the leadership section? I am trying to give myself the highest chance I can, but I do not want to be redundant.

I see what you're saying, @Graduation2016 . If there's not a place specifically to detail any community service events/hours outside of community organizations, then I would definitely include your JROTC events. At that point, the group/person that sponsored the event doesn't really matter at all. Most of my hours were with the help of ROTC and I just described them as what I was doing/who I was helping with my time. It's not about JROTC per-say, it's about your service hours.

For the summer seminar- the academic portion requires certain grades given per given classes.
I am currently in AP Physics 1 and have a quarterly grade- should I include that on my application?
