I have read on different threads that I should apply to the summer seminar as soon as possible how ever I will be taking the SAT on December 1st (the same day the application opens). So I was wondering if I could update the application after already submitting it with my December SAT scores once they come out.

Having gone through this last year my advice is to wait for your scores. It will only be about 2 1/2 weeks after 12/1. The vast majority of summer seminar applicants will not be notified until after the final deadline so in the end it will not make any difference. If you have PSAT scores above 1500 combined math/reading, a 3.8 or higher GPA and other outstanding credentials it might be a good idea to apply earlier. Only the very top candidates hear anything before March.

Thanks for the info. I have actually already taken the SAT but scored a 580 reading, 690 math, and 570 writing. I was going to try to bring my reading score up to 600+ this coming up test. I also have a 4.2 weighted gpa and 3.9 unweighted with 4 APs, and 7 honors classes. I have many ECs and am captain of cross country team. Do you still think I should wait for the new scores, or should I just go ahead with the application when it opens?

My advice would be to submit. If you have not heard back from the Academy after you receive your results then update then. You could always make sure the Academy gets them by listing them as a recipient on the College Board site.

I second that. Submitting early gives your application more chances to be looked at; if your scores improve then you can update it later. I think I submitted early on but didn't hear back until January-ish, and many hear back later.

Just curious, what do everyone's credentials look like. I am mostly comparing my ACT scores. I have taken it one time and received a 25 overall; 22 Reading, 24 English, 24 Math and 26 Science. I am worried about my scores although I am positive that I can raise them on the December 8th test. I was planning on applying on December 1st to the SS and then updating my application once I get my new ACT scores in. Does this sound like the right thing to do? Thanks and good luck to all of the SS applicants! Hope to see you all there!

You should submit your scores. My test scores were not extravagant. I had a 28 ACT and combined SAT of 1890. I applied within the first week of the application's opening and I received acceptance by late December/ early January. I live in Alaska, and I think that helped my application A LOT, but I also have a lot of extra-curricular activities, sports, and leadership. Don't hold back on your application, but don't stress about it either. Good luck!

Updating Scores

If you submit your application now, my understanding is that it 'closes' and you can only go back in to check your status. IF that is the case, how do you update your scores if you recieve highter SAT/ACT scores after you send in your application? If you email them in, do you think they will track your application and really update it for you?
Thanks for any advice!

You can log onto the application with your SS# and B'day, and it let's you update all parts of the application and I think they said on the site that it wasn't rolling so no one would hear anything back before the application deadline - I'm getting my PSAT results back next week but I submitted my application (with my old scores) and plan on updating it later.

I'm reposting what I put into a similar thread on summer seminar.

According to the academy:

Things are a little different this year. The plan is that no considerations for summer seminar will be made until after the close for applications on january 31st. You will find out on february 15th. So we recommend you put in the best application you can. Best of luck. Mike.
