I am just curious and I am asking this on the USMA and USNA forum also:

1. Did you have a preference for which academy prior to going to the summer seminars?

2. Did attending the seminar change your mind?

3. What do you like about the academy you prefer?

Well, last year I went to USAFA SS, NASS, and Army swim camp. I went thinking AF was my first choice. Ended the summer with Army as my first choice. The seminars didn't change my mind as much as researching career opportunities and speaking with different military members from all the branches.

I went to USMA sls, and USAFA ss. Got rejected from navy ss.

1. Yes, I had a preference for usma before going to either one.

2. No.

The biggest thing SLS helped me decide was that I wanted USMA over AROTC for sure. Honestly, I had decided I wasn't going to apply to the Air Force academy even before I went to SS.

USNA has always been my number one. I applied to Navy SS, but there was no point in going since I knew that is exactly what I wanted. Was encouraged to look into other academies. AF was the only other one I was interested in. Went to AF session one. Had a blast. But the Air Force is not what I want for a CAREER. Not interested in flying. No other careers in the AF really grabbed my attention.

I guess to me summer seminar wouldn't have done anything for me because I'm not interested in which SA is bigger, better location, better majors, etc. To me it isn't about the service academy IT'S about the career. And quite frankly for what I want, Navy offers the best option.

That's great you like USXA'S campus better than USXA's campus, but that doesn't matter when you consider that at a minimum you are serving atleast five years after. To me finding out what a career is like isn't going to come from a one week recruiting session, it come's from reasearching, speaking to AD officers/enlisted, vets, etc.

Now don't get me wrong summer seminar was a good learning tool. It definetly does help someone who is truly on the fence. What summer seminar did do for me was, like what the above poster said, help me decide that an SA is a better option than NROTC at a civillian college.

So to sum it up:

1. Yes
2. No
3. Career route.
