I asked my DS, who is a 3yr AD AROTC winner in his freshman year, if there was any planned training that he needed to attend this summer. He said he was not informed of any.

Today at work, a co-worker of mine whose DS goes to a SMC stated that all the freshman AROTC students would be going to CIET.

Does anyone know what traditionally happens? I would like to plan a summer vacation and would want to work around any training dates.

Thanks!

This was very confusing last year as to who went to CIET and who did not. Last year was the first year for CIET. MyDS went as a contracted MS1 (4 yr scholarship winner) from a SMC. His fellow non-contracted MS1's did not go. I too had heard talk of CIET, and he had not, so I had him ask his PMS about it. The first answer was "yes, there is CIET, but we do not know who will be attending". It was a while before they actually told the kids they were going, and then a while before they saw dates. They were shown available dates and actually chose their session, however, this is most likely not true of every college. There were 8 or 9 sessions starting in June with a new session about every 3 days.
So, have him talk to his PMS and see if he will be required to attend and if so when they may know dates.....which may be quite the waiting game! Someplace on here is our discussion from last year I believe, just search CIET and it should be there.

My son is an MSl at an SMC. He told me last not that it is mandatory for all scholarship winners. He only received a 3 year so he isn't contracted yet, but said he is going. I do not know dates that he will be going but a couple of other parents I know already have been given dates.

Well, DS just got the email from his Cadre. All of the MS1 will be going to CIET. FYI- Only 1 is a 4yr winner, DS and 1 other are 3 year AD, and 5 are non-contracted.

It was passed down to me anyone ABOVE (Does NOT include 3 year) winners will be going.
But of course there was the caveat that there will be more to come.

DS, an MS-I was advised yesterday that CIET would be happening this coming summer. Of course more info to come.

I asked my DS if he had been told anything yet about CIET and he has no word yet. He is a 3 year AD. He is keeping his summer schedule open in case he gets word that he's going.

Just saw CIET 2016 schedule- 1st regiment starts Friday, June 3, 2016 - Sunday July 3, 2016; then a new regiment starts up every five days after, so 2nd starts June 8th-July 8th; 3rd June 13th-July 13th; all the way to 10th which starts July 20th- August 19th.

Son said still no definitive word from his battalion on exactly who is going or eligible.
Understanding all may have changed but still questions for those who went or had DS/DD go to CIET- how were their dates chosen? Do they go as brigades, or part of battalion; or individually? do they put in top three?

They pretty much go individually, but may be with others from their school. Last year DS was able to choose his dates, but that really varied. From what I understand, schools are given slots to fill (X number of female slots for this date, X number of male slots for that date, etc), and I guess how they are assigned is up to them.

My DS was given a choice of 3 start dates. He was told to place them in preference order.

Thanks for info on past attendance. For "now" information from posts it seems as though for CIET "most" SMCs are in different category with all MS1 4 and 3 year scholarship winners going to CIET, except for Norwich, with "caveat more to come." And part of 2nd Brigade Mohawk Battalion? which has all MS1s scholarship and non-contracted going.

I am chuckling as the 2016 CIET process is a perfect first example for many MS1s (and parents) of how the military operates and a real world understanding of the term "scuttlebutt" and that these are the "final orders until new ones come down." Warned MS1 son early on to plan on keeping his summer plans "fluid" to say the least. He may want to keep open the midnight option to stock shelves at Toys R Us.

Flexibility is the best word to live by in the Army! I never believed we were pcs'ing until we were on the plane and even then our orders still changed! Welcome to the Army life!! It's a great ride! I hope our dau embraces the chaos! Which reminds me, my hus had this quote on his desk for years....
The reason the American Army does so well in wartime, is that war is chaos, and the American Army practices it on a daily basis."
That being said we loved every minute, station, friend and tdy!

Hi everyone. I haven't been on this forum in a long time, but my DS (MS1 non-scholarship, non-contracted) mentioned that he was asked to attend CIET this summer, so I thought I'd get on here and see what I can find it. Sounds like from what some of you are saying, he might have an opportunity to choose from different dates - good to know. As far as my DS knows now, all the MS2's from his battalion are going and only two MS1's. Although we originally heard there weren't any commitments after freshmen year, I'm sure glad I didn't buy any plane tickets for this summer. We'll just go with the flow.

DS and a few other MS-I cadets are doing the swearing in ceremony at the University basketball game tomorrow so we are traveling to see him.
Hopefully he will have more CIET info when we see him.

If it was anything like last year you won't get confirmed dates until mid-April. If you plan on taking a summer class or internship let your cadre know ASAP so they can help you out!

Wondering which week the ne ECP cadets from MMI will attend CIET this summer. Anyone have word on that? Also, I can't believe I just used that many acronyms in one sentence. Lol!

Last year I was in the 8th reg and had about 20 ECP kids in my company. Most were from the same school so I guess they try to keep them together

hey i am going to be attending CIET this summer. They havent told me which regiment but i checked the dates on a few sites and it appears i am 5th regiment. I want to know if anyone else will be attending CIET from MMI and if we get to keep our uniforms after CIET. Thank You.
