The following was taken from the parents page. Is this in effect this year? I thought I had heard during Parent's meeting at INDOC that no visitation would be allowed until Parents weekend

    UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY
    KINGS POINT
    COMMANDANT’S INSTRUCTION 1-09
    July 31, 2008
    SUBJ: CHAPEL AND PARENT VISITATION
    1. During Plebe Indoctrination
    a. During Plebe Indoctrination, Plebe Candidates may not sit with parents or converse with them after chapel services. OICs and DIs will politely inform parents of this policy if a parent attempts to make contact with their Plebe Candidate.
    b. Parents, friends and visitors are welcome to attend services at the Chapel and may sit anywhere except for the designated Plebe Candidate spaces, as assigned by the Chaplain. Further, an announcement will be made on the bulletin and during the service announcements requesting parents to respect the policy of no communication.
    2. After Plebe Indoctrination – After Plebe Indoctrination, beginning the Sunday following the start of the academic year and between the hours of 0930 and 1400, Plebe Candidates may sit with parents and family members at chapel and visit with them during this period. Plebe Candidates must stay within the academy limits during this time frame, unless special liberty has been approved.

That post is from last year. The Academy cannot stop parents from attending church on Sunday. If you must go to Church, sit in the back, as you will not be allowed to sit with your Plebe Candidate during church. I believe KP will allow a brief visit with the PC after church. However, Parents please remember that this is a tough time for your child as well. The process of separation from you is difficult for them, so it's best to leave them alone during this period from Indoc to Parents Weekend. They need time to adjust to their new lifestyle, just like you have to adjust to your new lifestyle.

You will be amazed of your child when you see them parent's weekend! Hang on till then!
