And this surprises who?

I don't know who came up with the idea that a "punishment" strike that is not designed to significantly affect the situation would be a good idea.

Getting involved in a war without the intent to beat the other side is plain stupid.

Short answer: Obama. Longer answer: Valerie Jarrett.
And you sir are 100% correct, although I must say it's not the first time we've done that but more often it was in retrospect.

HOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER BACKS PRESIDENT OBAMA'S CALL FOR A MILITARY STRIKE AGAINST SYRIA. Now the House and Senate only need 4 months to debate for a vote.

And then another 6 months to decide what other programs to cut or taxes to increase to pay for it. This would include at least 2 attempts to shut down governmental operations and at least one vote to defund Obamacare.

I think we are now in the "Let's delay and hope everyone just forgets we brought it up" Strategy. I think I learned that in a Foreign Policy Class called "Ooops, that's not what we meant"

It's a Ponzi scheme of excuses.... "Um... Obamacare and the debt ceiling are issues.... quick, come up with a distraction!"

"Uh yes, let's say that I have the ultimate authority here, but that Congress should decide (unless they decide what I haven't decided...)"

"Um, not this has become an issue.... quick, come up with another distraction...."

Eventually these distractions are going to run out. I'm not immediately concerned with the people of Syria, but it would be nice for the government to make a decision, one way or the other.... "we have time tot hink about this after Congress's vacation." Um, Mr. president, you have the power to act before vacation is over....

The level of incompetence is incredible.

It's purely political. If Congress goes with it, President Obama is a uniter, bringing together both parties. If Congress doesn't go with it, blame it on Congress.

I agree it is political, as was his ill advised "red line" statement that started us down this slippery slope.

The level of incompetence is incredible.

After listening to some of the testimony today, etc. I only have this to say:
"Maintaining credibility is the last line of defense for scoundrels and incompetents." - M. Kinne Sept 2, 2013

OK.. so I'll add that if one can't win over the regular posters here, who truly care about these things, then all they have to peddle is horse hockey.

:yllol: Love this tweet I read about from Larry Sabato: "Syria is in the Middle East. What could go wrong?"

McCain is pulling out his support for a strike, film at 11

He's doesn't like the wording currently in the resolution. He's not pulling back on his support for a strike. In fact, he wants more not less.

And the rest of the story is the resolution changed and McCain voted for the resolution. The wording on his amendment is such that even a limited strike can declare victory, in my opinion.

I also watched the President's comments in the presser in Stockholm today. Something to the effect of 'It's not his red line and it's not his credibility on the line. It's Congresses and America's'. And so the responsibility shifting and blaming begins in earnest.

And for what I thought of as the humorous quote of the day: "The Coalition of the Invisible".
