Taking the Oath

Sorry guys, I really didn't want to get people heated up about this. I just always wanted to know if I would be able to say something regarding the constitution instead, since I feel very very strongly about it. I'm actually very Catholic as well, so I have no problem saying it the last bit, I was just curious!

I don't have much of a problem saying it, I was just wondering about it. I am appointed now. Had they asked me to swear at the end of the oath, "So help me myself because no higher power does exist," or, "So help me Cthulhu," I would say that anyway, because, as someone stated, it is best not to rock the boat.

My deepest apologies to anyone who got fired up about this. As they say, curiosity killed the cat?

I think we lose some things over the internet that are probably more apparent in person.

I didn't get the feeling anyone got too heated. Sometimes it takes that tone, but here it seemed to be fairly even.

Never wrong to ask a question. Also never wrong to disagree. I have no problem with people disagreeing with me. I may state my case, but you're welcome to state yours and in the end we either agree or disagree. Feelings are rarely hurt (mine at least).

AFI 36-2606 gives enlisted members of the Air Force the option to opt out of the "so help me god" phrase. However, I could not find any literature that provides officers with this option. I found this strange, and am wondering if anyone has any insight into this difference.
