Hello. I know that I am supposed to acquire recommendations from my math, science, and english teacher. Can I ask for a recommendation from my History teacher instead of my English teacher? Is one more heavily weighted than the other and would West Point allow this? When am I supposed to do the teacher evaluation? When is this due? Is there a specific form for teacher evaluations? I am a junior in high school right now. Thank you.

Take a look at the "stickies" at the top of the USMA forum page for a timeline of things you need to do.

The letters of recommendation come from a high school English, math, or chemistry or physics teacher, not just "science". No, you cannot swap a recommendation from your history teacher for the English recommendation. Do it exactly like West Point says.

Sorry bud, Dixieland is correct. Follow the instructions exactly, don't get caught up because you didn't do what they say. You don't want to give a reason for your application NOT to be looked at. For my class, they required a Physical Education teacher recommendation also, but I'm not sure if that will see be a thing for 2021. Good luck, and push through! Trust me, it's worth it.:)

Does it say that candidates need a physical education recommendation? Is that for every school? Thank you!

Thank you for clarifying that! I appreciate your help.

At the homepage for each SA on this site, there are a group of answers to the most commonly asked questions. Good to read those before asking a lot of the same questions that get asked each year. Also good to search back on older forum threads as the same things are asked each year.

Stickies: Go to any forum, phone app or desk/laptop. At the very top is the word "Stickies." The handful of posts below that are "stuck" there as good reference reading, and not in the regular chronological line-up of posts which start directly below the last of the Stickies for that forum. The Stickies address often-asked questions. The Nominations Stickie and the Stickies at the top of each Service Academy are great starting points, as is The Acronym List Stickie at the top of General Discussions>Community Information.

Please clarify on this for all the novices. What are "stickies" and which forum page ? Thanks.
If you go to the United States Military Academy page in the SA forums, you will see several pinned posts of information pertaining to admissions or other things that are useful for kids applying to West Point. They are called "stickies". Buff81 "stuck" them up there.:thumb:

A three-way cross-post! If Stickies 101 isn't clear now, we should get posting demerits.

For class of 2020 applications we had to submit PE teacher recommendations as well as Math, Chem/Physics, and English

I am told these recommendations are SOEs (school official evaluations) and are submitted online, not an actual "letter" you obtain.

In your online portal, there should be a link to request your teacher(s) to submit an evaluation. They get an email from USMA with the details. Talk to the teacher, ask if they are willing, and then submit through the link.

I believe, although I could be wrong, that we do not have access to everything on the portal until July 1st at the earliest.... That being said, should ask all the teachers I will need to fill out the SOEs before school ends or at the beginning of the next school year?

I would do it before school ends if possible but you'll probably need their personal email addresses to do so. Waiting until early in the next semester works too.
