teeth retainers

Are having retainers part of the "no active orthodontical work"? I was talking to my ortho and so now I'm wondering if this is true? are having permanent braces (the ones behind the teeth) count? from those who know, what are their experiences with classmates or stories about removable and permanent retainers? I don't want to show and have them be like "oh, you have retainers, go home."

In the Instructions to Appointees packet, retainers are one of the items listed to bring, so I'd assume they are fine. I have a permanent retainer on the bottom and a removable retainter (worn at night) on the top.

I had a permanent retainer on the top, but it came off (I thought permanent meant it stayed there). I never replaced it

thanks buffalo, I guess you mean the accepted packet? I haven't accepted mine yet, and my appointee packet had nothing beyond 2 pages. Thanks though! I wonder why people would have to check it off?

Matt, that's one reason why our ortho doesn't want to give me permanent on top, because they fall off? idk. None of my friends' has. I guess on rare occasions?

Well, by the end of this year I'll be in a retainer...lol

i wore a retainer all through basic at night, on the top and bottom, and there was no issue
