Yesterday marked the 33rd year of “The Big Event” at Texas A&M. http://bigevent.tamu.edu/ (includes a 2:52 long video of last years “Big Event”). Tens of thousands of Aggies (along with almost all of the cadets who ‘volunteered’) participate in this annual event which performs work around the greater Bryan/College Station community as a way for students and others at A&M to say “Thank You” to the community. Many of the Corps units at A&M continue their spirit of giving back through other community endeavors, such as working with at-risk schools. Other colleges have patterned their own “Events” after the one started at A&M, including Virginia Tech where last year, 8,050 volunteers completed 1,043 projects.http://www.roanoke.com/news/education/higher_education/virginia_tech/virginia-tech-big-event-organizers-look-to-break-record-for/article_518596e7-b6dd-55a9-835a-b1e0ffdee6ec.html
