Just reading over the daily schedule of a Citadel cadet, it seems as though other than mandatory PT, there is no time for recreational weightlifting. I want to lift everyday in college. The gyms and facilities are a huge part if my college visits. So for the Citadel and VMI, is there daily time for cadets to use the weight lifting facilities?

My sophomore year roommate at The Citadel was a bodybuilder. There is more than enough time to lift as much as you want, especially as an upperclassman.

One of my DS's major complaints about The Citadel during his upperclassman days was what he said The Citadel called a weight room. He stated with the amount of cadets that use it, looks like they would build a better one. Granted I never laid eyes upon it, but I heard him complain on numerous occasions. After contracting, there are ways if you explore them, to head a few miles across the river to Gold's. As far as time, as stated above, as an upperclassman you can find time.

Thank you for being honest and taking my question further. I will be sure to check out the facility when I go on my Pre-Knob visit

I am sure the necessities are there.......and I am very sure you are not going to pick a school based on their weight room :) Good Luck in choosing a college!

Definetly not the top of my priority list. I just care a lot about weightlifting and working out in order to be in the best shape of my life for the military. The basics and necesities are all I need (although a nice gym would be a nice bonus ;))

You may want to look at VMI's website about the multi million dollar renovations and new construction they're doing on there sports complex, including a new weightroom. Not all of the work is complete yet but I think the new gym and equipment are already being used. My son is in his 3rd year at VMI and is very big into weightlifting. You can make time to lift as a rat, but you have to schedule your time wisely. After rat year lifting or any other activities become easier to manage time wise. Good luck to you wherever you go.

I actually visited VMI about two weeks ago and got the chance to see all of the rennovating as well as the new gym. All I have to say about that is "WOW". I was very impressed!
