Well on the 17th of August I must report to the citadel for matriculation and in terms of the items I will need I have the things from the list provided on their website. I was wondering what other items I should bring that aren't included on the list. Also will I need to get school supplies like pencils and paper before I go or can I get that stuff once I get there? In addition what should I bring all the stuff in? I know we need a plastic container for use in the dorm rooms and also a trunk ( can someone also tell me the required size of the trunk, I can't seem to find the info), so am I supposed to put everything in the trunk and plastic container or use some other means?

Big plastic container will go on top if full press (your wardrobe), so it can pretty much be as big as you want, within reason.

"Trunk" usually turns out to be an overnight bag for most people, but anything that you'd put clothes in to travel will do. This will be stored under your bunk bed, so use that as a size reference but keep in mind your roommate will need room for there's to.

Bring extra t-shirts, socks, and underwear. You can never have enough of those. Go ahead and bring your computer to. In your plastic tub, you may store some healthy snacks and drink mixes (Gatorade, powdered milk) that you'll have access to once classes start, it beats waiting for your first care packages. Depending on which barracks you stay in, you'll want a small fan for your desk. Sheets and pillow cases get dirty fast, so some spare linens will come in handy for inspections.

You won't need school supplies, you'll have a couple days between Hell Week and when classes start to buy those on your OneCard, which The Citadel puts about $2k on per semester for school supplies and any other stuff you'll need as a cadet and college student.

Anything else feel free to PM me or just reply to the thread. There's probably a lot more things I'll remember in the coming days, so don't hesitate to ask anything that comes to mind.

Ah so the trunk is an overnight bag. In terms of size would something around the size or smaller than a duffle bag work? Also where should I put all the items I need when I first move in. Should I just stuff everything into a few boxes? A family friend's son who went to vmi told me that they have to carry all their things up at one time by themselves or with the help of another student which is why I'm wondering about how I should bring all my stuff on matriculation day.

Bigger the better honestly. In retrospect a big suitcase would be really good: lots of storage space and looks squared away under your bed. You'll want to keep most of your clothes in that. Keep your items in your tub, you won't have rooms for your boxes anywhere after you move in, which you'll only have about an hour to do. Your family will be able to help you move in, that's the last time you'll see them till parents weekend in October.

Also won't I need a container that will be put into storage? I was also wondering if there was certain attire I had to wear... I was thinking everyone was going to wear normal clothes which would later go into the storage container.

You won't need one, no. I didn't really see a use for the on-site storage facility to be honest.

Most males dress in a nice collared shirt of some sort and khaki pants/shorts. Charleston is hellfire hot to some and mildly warm to others in August, so that'll be up to you. Any civilian clothes you bring will go in your trunk/overnight bag.

Bring a sleeping bag! I didn't have anything and about froze the first couple nights:)
(When you are all gross and sweaty and then you relax all of a sudden in an air conditioned room it gets cold).
I would also recommend ear plugs. Sometimes your roommate might be staying up later than you/ getting up earlier for PT. They are a life saver.

I suppose the better living conditions are an even trade off for having to deal with a 3rd battalion knob year :D

in my day 'air conditioning' was a cooler full of ice set in front of a fan. Enjoy those 'hardships' youngens.
