The coming cycle for the Class of 2016

I wouldn't say that I'm in the same boat as the girl you described since my academics aren't as superb however my parents also have the same approach to academics. They believe that it is my grades that matter the most and that colleges only truly care about academics. As a result, my parents barred me from playing 2 sports because they believed that my grades would drop from the stress of a heavy load. As a result, I involved myself deeply in leadership in various clubs and an internship that I would do during school and not affect the time I spend at home helping my parents. Since this kind of activities didn't require my parent's consent or time, they don't mind me doing it.

From reading previous posts, I know that this is a negative in my application because I am not as well rounded as I could have been since I am positive that my grades would have stayed the same with or without the sport. The only thing I can do now is hope for the best since I can't go back into the past and become more involved in sports as I wanted to be.

I won't second guess your particular parents, because I don't know them. I do know the parents of the girls I referred to. But when your parents say that your grades matter "MOST"; they are correct. But "Most" doesn't mean "ONLY". There has to be balance in everything you do in life. My question is: "How long have you wanted to go to a military academy"? If it's been a while, did you or your parents not know that the military is a very "Physical" environment. As such; physical activities such as sports would naturally be a prerequisite. Also; the military by it's own nature is the epitome of being part of a "TEAM". Hence, why sports again are so important. Basically; working with others to achieve a common goal. That is the #1 precept of what a "Team" does. Whether it's a sports team, a military platoon/squadron/etc... Even the modern day work force has realized how important a "Team" is. Even walmart, target, many high end corporations, etc... refer to their employees as "TEAM MEMBERS". Now; if attending a military academy is a new or recent option you are exploring, then I can understand being behind the power curve.

But like you said, you can't go back and change time. But you did say that you were involved in some clubs and extra curricular type activities. At least that's more than the individual I referenced. Best of luck to you. I always recommend that besides the academies, that you apply to at least 5 universities. 3 of which should be at least to the quality of the academies. Best to you. mike....
