Thank God. #1 DD at Appointment to naval Academy, regular Navy Cammies charged to account. #2 Blueberries charged to uniform issue during new requirement and throw out the old. #3 Graduation and all new USMC uniforms with new pattern Cammies. It does run into some big bucks (for them) when the services can't get their act together.

Word is, it will take some time before the Academy makes this transition.

My daughter will be so bummed...her NWU's are her favorite uniform. After reading the article I can understand why they are switching.

The pictured uniforms may not be the worst (although they're pretty bad) but that is certainly worst worst march. Who the hell lifts their arm that high! :D

What truly makes it are the puff balls on their shoes. Tactical purpose: Stress reliever.

But as Alexander found out they could fight like hell. See Greeks in the Iron Triangle in Korea outpost Harry or as the Greeks called it "Haros" the road to Hell..

Everyone gave this uniform a good laugh, but really it could have been fantastic if they had made it lighter weight sooner and hadn't forgotten about that whole need for fire resistance.

People were quick to judge the color pattern making jokes about falling overboard or who can you hide from in blue, but the uniform it replaced, dungarees or the poopy suit, certainly did neither of those things either. What the NWUs were (if they had made them lighter weight and flame retardant) was a great working uniform. They hid stains well and could be easily maintained.

The NWU type 3, although "cooler looking" certainly won't be as good at hiding the typical maintenance stains.

I'd probably prefer to see us steal the Coast Guard working uniform if we're going to change, but oh well I'll stand by to hear all the expeditionary folks grumble :)

although an Army guy I will volunteer that I liked the "retro" khaki uniform that Mullen and a small number of others were wearing, whats wrong with bringing back the khaki uniform for officers and Chiefs, what about a version of the dark blue duty uniform the Coast Guard wears.

I think they still wear those... Maybe not the jacket one though, which I thought looked cool.

One is Summer Khaki. The other is Service Dress Khaki, once again retired in 2012.

If, however, a SECNAV or CNO likes something, back they come.

And then there was the resurgence and retirement (again) of aviation working tgreens...

It's like a tidal ebb and flow.
