The Reapplying Club - C/O 2017!

Eh, that's ok, I was kinda expecting it, what with all the others who got TWEs.
And I was accepted to Princeton's Class of 2016, with a pretty hefty scholarship! I also have an AFROTC scholarship, but I am probably not going to use it, just for my own little act of spite towards the Air Force haha. "You don't want me? Then I don't want your cheap scholarship!" :yllol::shake:

^ Just thought you ought to know that the Admissions for USAFA and AFROTC are both seperate and don't talk with each other.

Do you really want to be an Air Force officer? Or is your 'Air Force dream' limited to attending the Academy?

Perhaps you should reconsider why you want to go to the Academy in the first place.

Competition for the AFROTC scholarship was especially tough this year - does it mean nothing to you at all for having selected from the chosen few?

just for my own little act of spite towards the Air Force

Really?

If I were to join the USAF as enlisted, would I be able to attend the USAFA after 1, 2, or 3 years in the regular Air Force? Sorry that this message is not the clearest.

Active Duty to Air Force Academy

Yes you would be able to attend the USAFA if you still fell between the age limits. In fact a certain number of appointments go to active duty Air Force members. However, I believe that you must be recommended by those in charge of you (you'll have to double check that). If you plan on doing this, you must make sure that you excel in the Air Force and demonstrate leadership to your superiors.

The LEAD program sends enlisted airmen to the Academy. They follow the same admissions process except instead of getting a nomination from a MOC, you get it from your commander.

Thanks guys. I still need to get that Private Pilot license. Will I have time to continue my aviation education?

Let us all remember that military etiquette is one of the first lessons learned as a cadet/mid. This is an especially disappointing time of year when more will be receiving the TWE than the BFE. Those of you who are receiving the TWE, be proud of all of you accomplishments and do not bear anger toward those who do receive appointments. :thumb: Best wishes to all of you on your future endeavors.

Edited because USNA1982BGO posted before me.

What are your plans H2Opolodude?

Most likely, yes. Although it will be difficult and time consuming. Obviously you would not be able to pursue your PPL during basic training or tech school, which can range from a few weeks to months depending on which job you are assigned. After tech school it is likely that your career field will have professional development courses known as CDCs that will need to be completed. It is also likely that your commander will not allow any college courses or private certifications to be obtained until you have proven yourself sufficient at the job the AF assigned you.

There is no definite time frame for when you may pursue personal education. Remember, the AF needs come before your own. No doubt some of the members of this forum entering the class of 2016 already know the AF core values. Integrity First, Service Before Self, Excellence In All We Do.

Will be continued monitoring of this thread. Let's play nice.

As of now, I'm just waiting for the appointment or TWE... :/ My plan B is to just go on to my second year of community college and reapply next year. If it doesn't work out then, I'll probably do AFROTC at a university when I transfer

Gotcha. Hopefully you get some good news. What's your major?

Do you get a letter saying to wait further notice from PS? OR do you receive TWE and then hear back from PS? I'm a little confused on how the process works

I hope so too!
I'm majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
I'm sorry to hear you didn't get appointed this year :( but I hope you get into the prep school! I would love for that to be my second option, unfortunately I think they only allow graduates from this year's class.

TWE :(

I received my TWE last week :frown: I kind of expected it at this point though. As for my Plan B, I still haven't decided. I have been accepted to NWP, Mizzou, and Missouri S&T. I think I'm leaning toward ROTC Missouri S&T and then reapplying, but I'm not sure if NWP would be a better option. Any thoughts?

I got the TWE today and it reads:

Thank you for applying to the Class of 2016. We regret that we will not be able to offer you a place in the class entering the Air Force Academy this year. Your record received an in-depth review by a panel of experienced Air Force Academy faculty and staff. Unfortunately, we must turn away many outstanding individuals who would make excellent officers.

...

There's a bit more but it doesn't mention anything about prep school. However, anyone who's made it this far will automatically have their application reviewed for prep school.

That's awesome. Mechanical Engineering is a great major. If I wasn't so into computers (majoring computer engineering here) and flying I'd probably pick that as my second choice.

It is probably not my place to say anything, but I visit the forums everyday and check the threads that you post frequently in. I'm sorry that you didn't get an offer, but I really appreciate your attitude and your determination to succeed, even now. No matter where you go to school, I'm sure that you will succeed. I hope I get to see you next year. Good luck.

Thanks! Congrats on your appointment! I'm excited for you. Hopefully I'll get to see you next year, even if it means I'm standing at attention and you're yelling in my face.
