"The Wait List" Club.....

My wife's allergies have REALLY been bothering her this past week
Thought this was going to be so much easier second time around. Guess I'll just have to carry the backpack full of Kleenex on RDay for those scratchy, watery eyes and sniffles.

That's the spirit!! :thumb:

My son was in your shoes two years ago...now on his way to Eagle for phase two of 3/c summer!

Good things come to those who wait...and especially to those who make good use of their time! Work hard, improve where you can, and enjoy this extra time being a kid. It's a small price to pay for what you are working towards!

Good luck.

Congrats!!!

<Disey3> I'm sooo happy for your son. That is a great story!

Been There

Son just rec'd phone call from USCGA....Rec'd an appointment for the Class of 2014!! Let the Festivus begin!! After I'm done crying... :jaw: :jump1:

Wow! Congratulations! This brings back memories. I have twin sons that applied for the class of 2011, triple qualified but received TWE. Plan B. was to go to SUNY maritime and reapply. They both loved maritime college. One twin decided not to reapply and stay at maritime and is currently on the training ship Empire state six traveling from Athens to Dublin and serving as the chief cadet engineer. He is scheduled to graduate maritime next May in the class of 2011. His twin brother reapplied to USCGA after complaining one year at maritime and received his BFE March 18, 2008. He is currently a 2/C cadet at the Academy and loves every minute of it. Last summer he served aboard the cutter Alex Haley for three months while his brother served as a cadet observer aboard the Conoco Phillips tanker enterprise. They actually met each other and got to spend a day together at Valdez Alaska. Both boys or should I say men love their respective schools in the programs there in. I might note that a second maritime student was also accepted into the Academy for the class of 2012 and is still at the Academy.

To those that received their appointments, welcome to an experience of a lifetime. For those who did not make it this year, welcome to be approximately 30% would take two years to receive an appointment. For those that want to go here, I can recommend one year at any of the maritime colleges for excellent preparation and of course, be sure to reapply early. We take both ACT and SAT's. To do well at either school expect to study for the most part seven days a week. Another important consideration is time management. From day one at either school, do all your homework the night it is assigned even if it is due in two weeks. Guaranteed, more work will be due in the same timeframe and if you way to last minute you'll fall behind.

Before you reapply, consider if you really want to go to one of the Academy's. You will never graduate have any of the Academy's motivated only to be with a friend or because your parents went there. It must be something that you want. The work is hard but the rewards are fantastic.

Good luck to all

Congrats Disey3!!!! See patience does pay off!!!! Couldnt be happier for your son and your family... We will be seeing you next year! Its off to MMI for my son! Happy he has the opportunity!

Happy in the MidWest

Hi - My daughter was also notified about her appointment after going on the roller coaster ride of a lifetime. She was resigned to going to Michigan Tech (after getting wait listed), but June 9th was a crazy day for her too.

I would just suggest that this blog be promoted on the parent's site for USCGA or even at the admissions site (maybe I just missed it). I know about the message board (I have a 2012 cadet too) and have looked there - but not here until today. It would have been nice and I would have bugged fewer people (maybe not) if I had known about this group.

I appreciate the work that the admissions partners do. I cannot imagine having to go through so many quality applications and to have no room for them. It was an amazing year for very qualified applicants.

I feel like I have a good understanding of what all the others have gone through and it is nice to know that we were not alone. I can definitely feel for what disey3 went through with her son. I think my husband thought I was crazy too. It really seems like there are some very supportive people out there.

Thanks for being part of the Coast Guard family.

My daughter's plan B is Mass. Maritime Academy. Still hoping for the phone call from CG but is excited about MMA. Went to the open house and realized what a great opportunity it was. Plus her brother is finishing first year at MMA and loves it.

Glad you all had a good Open House visit!
