"The Wait List" Club.....

thank you everyone for your kind comments. There are so many wonderful people who hang out on this forum.

Yes we have watched "Rudy" we own the movie and before every football season watch it to kick off the season. Can you believe that at parent's day at freshman orientation that movie is shown every year?

This past summer when daughter participated in "scholarship" Jr Miss pageant and didnt have any discernable talent that she could present on stage, she did the Knute Rockne half-time speech. And did a "darn" good job by the way.

I am so excited for everyone and all of their options. As the school year is winding down and everyone is planning for next year it is so exciting to see all of the options and choices that are out there for these young, ambitious students.

I am glad to see that our future is going to be in very capable hands!

It amazes me as to the talent and ambition of our kids. If this is our countries future leadership we will be ok and in good hands.

On another note Luigi and Objee any update as to numbers of accepted appointments or wait list confirmations?

Haven't heard anything from them in quite some time...then again May 1st is in a few days...this thread should be BUSY next week! From my mouth to God's ears!

Atleast 400 people on the waiting list... WOWWWW

EDIT - E-mail sent to me:

Good afternoon,

This message confirms your spot on the waiting list for an appointment to the Class of 2014. Any new information that you would like us to consider should be submitted to the address below to arrive by May 7th...you may also submit electronic updates directly to me. There are approximately 400 applicants currently on the waiting list and in the past we have tendered as many as 40 appointments to this group; however, the number of appointments tendered to applicants on the waiting list this year is wholly based on the accept/decline rate of appointments already offered. If we are able to offer you an appointment, you will be contacted via phone call no later than May 15th. If we are unable to offer you an appointment, you will be notified via mail no later than June 1st.

Have heard "rumors" that sometimes someone has been notified at late as 1 week before R-Day....No one knows...Keeping faith and fingers crossed! Two days before May 1st! Let's go baby!! Bring It!! :shake:

DS received the same e-mail. Reading it was like, watching Macaulay Culkin, putting after shave lotion on his face, from the movie Home Alone!

Just went out to buy a lottery ticket, I think the odds of wining are better than my son getting the CGA phone call . Having never worked in an admissions office I plead ignorant and ask why 400 applicants are put on a wait list for a class size of approximately 300? Also, having 13% of those offered appointments decline the opportunity to attend the CGA seems high? In the mean time I’ll check the winning numbers tomorrow night and start to check the called ID every hour starting next week. It will be just like the old days when I would check Dodmerb 15 times a day:biggrin:

AAAAh it's friday....Tomorrow we ALL start thinking "Is TODAY going to be the day?" The phone will ring or the cell phone will chime and our eyes will be GLUED to the person picking up the phone...it's a beautiful thing! Objee & Luigi...Get ready! :thumb:

Also, having 13% of those offered appointments decline the opportunity to attend the CGA seems high?

Historically, it's a lot higher than 13%. The "decline" rates for the last 4 years:

2012: 28% (411 appoints / 117 declines)
2011: 30% (391 / 119)
2010: 30% (394 / 117)
2009: 27% (422 / 115)

Appointees decline for many reasons, however the main reason is to attend a different military academy (Amazingly, USCGA may have been their 2nd choice).

PS -

Although 400+ seems insurmountable, no one one the waiting list should give up hope until the TWE/phone call comes. Until then (May 15th) you are still in the game.

I agree, Keep the Faith. It's not over until someone tells you its over! (for this year)

Keep the hope alive...between now and May 15th applicants on the wait list will be given appointment they will then be given 2 weeks to accept. A few of then will not, so it is possible to receive an appointment after May 15th. Usually on or about May 15th a email goes out asking those on the wait list if they like to be consider for a short notice appointment . I know a cadet who received an appointment on May 21......

That's the spirit! :thumb: Here's hoping all of the SAF gang gets good news soon.

And of course, I'll be here, singing my little tune....It's called, "Try again next year if CGA is really what you want and it was super amazing for my kid to have that extra year to grow up and he got his appt. the second time around and the extra year just flew by".

While it won't make the weekly top 40 (anyone remember Rick Dees? lol), it's my favorite song.

Shellz, I totally remember "Rick Dee's in the Morning"!
---------------------------------------------------

Okay gang, tomorrow is the month for the final push! I'm hoping good new for all, and encouragment for those wanting to re-apply for c/o 2015. Don't ask me why, but some think the odd number classes are the best of the best, sir :shake:. Keep those gills wet until you officially here anything. :thumb: -officer

Does anyone know if applicants on the wait list are eligible for the Scholars program if someone drops off like an applicant on one of the other posts indicated they had to due to medical DQ? Or is their a whole different wait list for the scholars. Our plan B is to Self prep at NMMI however it is very expensive.?

And, the wait shortens.....

In preparation of potential good news in the coming weeks, we sent both our sons to the oral surgen to have thier wisdom teeth removed. Nothing like consolidating the misery. Everyone have a great weekend, the weather is suppose to be baumy here in the NE! I'll be keeping the fridge full of non-chewable foods. In any case, I hope someone on the board will hear something positive next week. Still crossing all the possible body parts.:thumb:

Shoreside, good luck with the wisdom teeth. Our son's procedure went remarkably well. No bruising or extraordinary pain. In fact, he didn't want to take the pain medication the next day, because then he couldn't get behind the wheel of the car!!

Sending you good wishes for the week to come!!!!!

Son is home and it's supposed to be around mid to high 80's today...what to do...what to do...Going out on the boat! Well deserved R & R for the three of us....going fishing! Wish us luck! Stripers...here we come! :thumb: Big Momma needs some sun!

Okay.....Enough sun!

Back and sunburned! With SPF 30 mind you.... BUT I caught the most and disey caught the biggest! Had a bunch of laughs and rested....

Come On Monday!! Let the waiting begin!! :thumb:

Let it be knonw ASAP

If you are interested in the Scholar program, call admission ASAP and let it be known to the person managing this program. Its probably too late to join the incoming Scholar pool, but I am firm believer of trying every avenue. And if you are an athelete then also call the coach of your prefered sport and express your interest to this person as well. Last year I received a call just four days before the Scholar program began and was asked by the Academy if I could help assist a family who had just received word their kid was accepted to the program. Wow! That's a lot to digest even for a highly organized family.

And if you don't get into the scholar program, but attend NMMI on your on dime - then I will assure you that its money well spent. Just make sure you hang in there when life gets tough... as it will. It gets easier after the Christams break and by March you will see the road headed to USCGA if you make sure to keep up your grades ( B+ average). You should also take the again th eSAT or ACT at NMMI.

For those applying for the class of 2015 - Let it be known up front if you are willing to attend the Scholar program. State it in your application and explain why you are willing to go this route.

Any News?

Luigi...Objee...any appointments turned down? Monday set in with a bang! It's May 3rd!!
