I thought the deadline to hear was supposed to be April 15? My son is still anxiously waiting and I was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat. He is trying to be patient but each day revolves around the mail delivery and we were hoping we would have an answer by now.

Our son is still waiting...today I called admissions. First of all, the they wouldn't tell me anything other that to say that "decisions are still being made". I said, well, the national reply date for colleges is 1 May, and so when would he hear? I also said that he is enrolled in orientation and advising for the upcoming year. Basically I was told that the report date is 1 July--so I guess that means he could hear in June?? That is crazy, since he is proceeding with Plan B, which is excellent. I did say, "West Point notified everyone by 15 April, so... and the response was, "We are not West Point".... Duh...so not a very fruitful phone call!

Well first of all Induction Day is June 30!!! Not July 1 for the Class of 2015! It is not fruitful to call and bug admissions. Nothing will get done any quicker becasue you called and annoyed one of the Regional directors by comparing them to West Point  USNA admissions will update you if your status changes :thumb:

    micheleguy,

If I was the RD, I would have said exactly the same. As USNA1985 said, proceed with Plan B and if USNA says yes, then you can withdrawal from the other school.

Also, this is your son's application, he needs to take charge of it, including communicating with admissions.

    Wow--

--I did not "call to bug admissions"...Our son has not heard anything and I thought it was appropriate to ask.

--I did not "compare the USNA to WP--I simply stated that WP had a 15 April date and wondered what date the USNA was aiming for.

It appears from your post that you have an appointment so congratulations to you. I hope you learn to have tolerance for those who are not in your position. It has been a very long wait for all I am sure. We see things slightly differently (possibly) from others, having a combined 45 years of service to our country, so when things don"t go as expected, we ask questions.

    Good luck to all

My post isn't and wasn't intended to be offensive or intolerant.

It is a busy time for USNA and when you start off that "West Point notified everyone by 15 April, so..." that indicates you are comparing.

I'm not saying that it was inappropriate to call admissions, but I think the call should have came from your son.

I was not posting to point fingers, but merely to say let it be. They have a set system that has worked for them in the past. I really do not appreciate being talked down to for trying to give some friendly advice. I appreciate your service, but please do not wave it in my face as a qualifier fortaking a indirect blow at someone who is trying to help.

    Calm down folks.

I know this is a tense time.

For whatever reason, USNA is a bit behind the power curve this year. Normally they try to notify everyone by April 15. However, for whatever reason, there are still candidates who haven't received the word. BGOs haven't been told why.

I know this puts a strain on candidates trying to evaluate Plan B vs. USNA. I can only recommend that, if you've not heard either way, plan on your "Plan B." If USNA remains your first choice and it comes through, GREAT. If not, you have a great alternative.

Good luck M-guy...if I were in your position I would probably be doing about the same things. I would be very frustrated at the wait...thankfully not in that position but I feel for those having to wait. I don't envy the Navy's challenge is selecting their Plebes to be, nor do I think its unreasonable for someone to contact to try to determine a possible decision date. Lets not battle over semantics here over what or what was not said or how well it was expressed. My candidate owned the process but there were times I called...why? During school hours or due to the fact I needed to plan for the financial impacts if enacting Plans B, C, D... For those set for 6/30 seeking to offer 'friendly advice' to those still waiting, I suggest we remember what the Greek Aeschylus said “It is easy when we are in prosperity to give advice to the afflicted.” M-guy, thank you for your service and again, good luck.

Well said 63. I too have made unsolicited calls on my DS behalf simply because it was easier for me to call during the day. M-guy thank you for your service and good luck.

I don't disagree there are times when it might be appropriate for the parents to call (i.e. son/daughter out of country, at a wilderness camp with no comms, medical issues, etc.). However, most questions posed are "I don't need to know this second" responses, in which an email might just be fine. Additionally, in this day where most students have cell phones, it is possible at some point during the day for them to make a call or could leave a voice mail (if after working hours).

I'm not going to beat the dead horse after this. Everyone has their own opinion, and in both my application cycles, I was the one calling and/or writing emails to my RD (I was in HS and managed to make the phone calls) -- never letting my parents be the ones communicating.

Many thanks for those who backed up the previous post we made. Our son was told quite a while back (last fall), not specifically by the USNA, that 15 April was when decisions would be pretty much hammered out. When that date came and went, we started wondering, and that's what prompted my call. I had time to do it, so I did. The admissions staff was very cordial and did not seem to mind the call.

Good luck to all who have been selected and those still waiting!
