Howdy. I'm Robert Doby, USAFA 2017. Since I seem to be running into old acquaintances at a startling rate, it'd be interesting to see if anyone I know is around:

    1. NASS 2012, Session 1, Delta Company, 3rd Platoon
    2. SLS 2012, Session 2, 3rd Company, 5th Platoon

Oddly enough, the guy who just transferred to my school was at NASS, just a week behind me and in another company. Delta Company was still "loud" (aka, awesome).

I'm a math guy; calculus and abstracts are my game, and a touch for writing when the mood seizes me (case in point: "A Poem for Your Sprog," page 11 of the USAFA Appointments thread). I run long distance and personally can't wait to get back to Colorado - I lived on the Academy for four years while my mother finished her 20, and you could say I'm rather fond of the place. That, and, you can't find a decent hill in Illinois.

As my last act before signing myself away on I-Day, I'll be attending the Oklahoma D-Day paintball scenario, if anyone else is planning on that. What better a way to finish off a school career before a military one?

Wow, that is really neat. I sometimes wonder what I will be thinking when I start getting ready to graduate from HS, and start my military career, because I have heard of some crazy things done before the 1st day at the SAs. But, I am only a freshman, so I will figure that out later. Welcome, and if you need any help with the site, I have pretty much learned my way around.

In all truthfulness, the fact that I used this name ("thorgold") was an act of identification, in my case, as there have been numerous ties between my given name and this handle in several cases, so an edit here would be a moot point, serving only to obscure it from people who may actually have practical use in knowing my identity.

Heck, even without this, I'm identifiable. "Appointed IL-16, 1/16/13" (from appointment thread) - using that info, you have my name via news articles from my school and local area.

While there are many cases in which my identity is something to safeguard, in this case it's fairly a moot point.

 You've been warned. You're future cadre might not know what thorgold means, but they'll certainly recognize your real name. Trust me, many rising cadre like to look up their prospective trainees and size them up. Read about "Mars boy". Best to keep yourself off the radar if you can unless you want a payload of cadre headed your way.

I share a last name with my sister. Who will be a rising cadre. I imagine my chances of escape are fairly slim to begin with.
