Hi all,
The only part remaining on my online application for nrotc is selecting my top 5 schools. I think my top 3 are Carnegie melon, Uva, and Virginia tech, and I need to decide on my major for these schools. I am very interested in computer science and computer engineering, but I know those are tier 2 majors. Does selecting a tier 2 major put me at a large disadvantage in receiving the scholarship? I thought I read that 85% of scholarships go to tier 1 majors. Thanks in advance!

The Navy is preparing our officer corps of the future to meet the dynamic challenges in the next generation of technology and leadership. In structuring our academic programs to meet these challenges, undergraduate academic majors for NROTC Navy option midshipmen are divided into three categories or tiers: Tier 1 - engineering programs of Navy interest, Tier 2 - other engineering, math and science programs, Tier 3 - Foreign language and remaining academic programs. In order to keep pace in this high tech and diverse environment, approximately 85% of Navy Option NROTC scholarships offers will be awarded to students interested in completing a Tier 1 or Tier 2 academic major. The NROTC scholarship provides full tuition and fees at 159 of our nation's most elite and prestigious colleges and universiti

right... the 85% is Tier 1 + Tier 2. When I last looked at that in about 2010, it was about 35% Tier 1 and 50% Tier 2.
