Time for the appointment thread

Bundy you might want to talk to Fencersmom, obviously her DS's are fencers. I am sure she would be a wealth of information.

To everyone else...congrats...and get that body wrapped in bubble wrap:shake: No more doing back flips on the tramp:wink:

Good Job everyone! You can now apply Christcorp's first emotion... Hell Yeah! (you may need to re-post that Christcorp in case anyone missed it). Keep up the good work.

Later,

Brian

Miracles do happen. Before today I was losing hope of obtaining an appointment to usafa and was seriously thinking of doing Prep School. Today was like any other day, until I called my counselor to ask if he had received my latest SAT scores. After answering my question, he tells me that I had received an LOA and that I would be receiving it in the mail soon. I almost fainted, and I had to call him back later to confirm it. I just want to scream and announce it to the whole world, but till I receive the actual letter I'll just tell you guys. Thanks for all of your help, I really appreciate it!

Glad to see the list growing. Congrats to all of you. I like this time of year. We all get to sit back and allow you all to enjoy the rewards of your hard work. And for those who haven't heard yet, don't get discouraged. Remember, the vast majority simply won't come out until March. Best of luck to all of you. Mike....

Can everyone receiving LOAs tell me if they have 20/20 vision? We are being told that LOAs are going only to those that will not require vision correction surgery to become pilot qualified...that 60 % of the class must be pilot qualified without vision correction. Is that true? Anyone else heard this?

My son wears contacts lenses and got an LOA in October of last year. He is a member of the Class of 2013.

Who's telling you that? That has never been the case for admission into the academy. The air force doesn't differentiate pilot qualified from normal military/academy qualified. Pilot Qualification comes later on while at the academy. And I've never heard of LOA's only going to PQ applicants. Where are you hearing this from? mike.....

Actually from his ALO. This was the first we had heard of this, too and wondered about the validity.

We heard the same from our state ALO. That it had changed in the past few years. That the candidates are no longer being told if they are pilot qualified, but that it is being considered in the admissions process. We were also told that 60 percent figure. My son does have 20/20 vision and has an LOA.

We heard the same info in Fl. I thought that would be good since my vision is 20/20 but later found out my DODMERB exam states color vision issues, which eliminates pilot qualification. Guess that puts me in the other 40%.

OK; time for a SHOUT-OUT!

STEVE: (Flieger)

What say you? I haven't heard about it affecting LOA's. I do know that they are definitely looking at PQ "Unofficially" during the DODMRB physical; but not that they were limiting the LOA's being offered ONLY to PQ (Uncorrected eye sight) applicants. My son; class of 2012 received his "APPOINTMENT" the first of November. He isn't 20/20. He is "Correctable" to 20/20. Granted, it was an "Appointment" and NOT an "LOA". Talk to us Steve..... Mike.....

My son has 20/20 vision. But I wouldn't really know if what you heard was true.

hmm weird, I have 20/800 and definitely not pilot qualified. I received my loa dated 11/10.

I think you'll be fine

Can't add much to this except that my D (a 2°, 2011) was told on her online status when she applied if she was PPQ (potential pilot qualified). But I understand that 2011 may have been the last class that was notified if they were PPQ. Actual PQ is not determined until after they are at USAFA.

I have also heard that admissions does have some kind of effort to have a PPQ class of 60%. I do not know if that is still the case, and if it is the case, I don't know if it is a "directive" or if it simply something that they strive for.

Guessing Flieger may have more input?

Yeah, I'll add that I did NOT hear anything about it affecting LOA's. I was just agreeing that overall we'd heard from the ALO that it could affect getting in, and I guess I would consider the LOA to be a logical extension of that.

My daughter pulled her LOA out of the mailbox an hour before going to her first MOC interview. What a great feeling! (In response to previous posts: she does have 20/20 vision)
Good luck to everyone!
