I have finally completed my application and got everything in just in time for the early consideration time frame. How long does it take before you get the intial response of accepted, denied, or deferred? Thanks.

Last year Early Action notifications were sent out on or before January 15. However, the vast majority of EA applicants (including myself) were "deferred". I would strongly encourage you to expect your notification in March/April and no earlier. Having that mindset would definitely have saved me a lot of anxiety last year! Congrats on finishing your application!

What is Early Action? Also, when was the deadline?

Not sure about this year, but in the past, as when our DS was applying, those applicants who finished early (according to a deadline set by USAFA) were considered for an "Early Action" appointment decision (I can't remember the date given back then for EA). The early action appointments were all made by January 15. Apparently there were not many given. Most were deferred to a later decision. Most started finding out they had appointments starting in March and continued up until I-Day for a few. (This was the case in Jan -June of 2014 for the Class of 2018)

Others have covered this very well. 'Search' is your friend...use it!
Nutshell: EA is for exceedingly exceptional applicants and some athletes.. That given the intense competition these need to be 'hooked' early since other high end ( think Ivy League and the like) would likely grant them admission and this exceptional group will not wait for the normal admissions/appointment timeline Mar/Apr! Surprisingly USAFA might not be their #1, #2, or even #3 choice. (CC did I get this right?)
