Time to request medical waiver from SMCs?

DS has been accepted to The Citadel and Norwich but is holding out hope for USNA appointment or Prep/Foundation opportunity. Applied but did not receive NROTC-MO scholarship. DoDMERB status since Feb 6: DQ pending USNA review-waiver.

Is it prudent and appropriate for DS to contact SMCs (at least 1st choice Citadel) to ask that they request a waiver or should he wait for presumably TWE ?
 
Sorry meant to post to SMC thread - still would appreciate any insight/suggestions!
 
If your DS had a scholarship, NROTC-MO would request the status from DoDMERB and possible waiver. If he doesn't have a scholarship and starts at The Citadel or Norwich, his medical qualification doesn't come into play until he is ready to contract. The DoDMERB exam/results are good for 2 yrs.
