My son, who is just starting his junior year in HS, received a letter from AFA on Saturday alerting him to the Summer Seminar applications opening up on Dec 1. He has decided that he wants to apply to the AFA. Is there anything he needs to do between now and Dec 1? Is the Summer Seminar application the first step he needs to take or is it time to call the ALO?

Thank you.

He could definitely call and introduce himself to his ALO if he'd like. This would be a good time. In the next couple of months, the ALO's get real busy with the next batch of applicants trying to get their applications in during the fall. So contact them now. Don't be surprised if he gets a voice mail. Also, he should be able to get the ALO's email address if he wants it.

Here's the link for the Summer seminar Application. (Opens December 1st)

Here's the link for people who want to find out who their ALO is: (Click on the map of the USA on the site)

Best of luck. Mike....

If he has not taken the PSAT, that would be a good idea. I know that the application for Summer Seminar asks about that score and it is used to help determine how "competitive" an applicant might be (MIGHT BE). Can't remember the rest - but my son is a Doolie now! Summer Seminar was a fantastic intro to USAFA. Good Luck!
