Tired and getting frustrated. Help please

Who did it come from? your mailman? a fedex delivery person? what?

It was delivered straight to my door, so chances are it comes from a delivery man, and probably not from the mailman, as it probably won't be delivered to your mailbox.

Back in August I applied for a Navy ROTC scholarship, but my application was weaker than my application for the Academy... BUT anyways, ...

How is it possible that your NROTC application is "weaker" than your USNA application? You're the same person with the same achievements and the same college test scores, aren't you?

There's no connection or correlation between the two processes and I would not draw any conclusions from it, one way or the other.

Think about it this way: It's a common myth that any student good enough to get accepted into a service academy, could have easily received a "full scholarship" to any civilian institution. Not true!

Full scholarships (even NROTC) are not easy to come by these days.

Both my sons (twins) got accepted into the Naval Academy. In fact, they both got LOAs. Although they received some substantial breaks in tuition from some other colleges they applied for - neither of them got a full scholarship.

Sadly, about the only way to get a full scholarship these days is to be an outstanding athlete. Being "smart" won't get you much.

My sons have an older sister who is nowhere near as smart as they are. But she's on a full ride at a division I school for playing fastpitch softball. She gets everything paid for, 100% - tuition, books, housing, food, etc...

It's a sad commentary on today's educational system.

The best athlete in your high school is much more likely to get a full scholarship than the valedictorian.

Because my application for NROTC was completed and turned in back in the begining of August. My application for USNA had much more added to it, such as instead of 450 hours community service I had over 550 on my USNA application. Also things like going to State level competition for individual and relay races for swimming, breakin school records, raising my GPA, things of that nature... But as you said...it is upsetting sometimes knowing that colleges dont give out scholarships to just the smart.. But, that's why I applied to USNA, because it's about the WHOLE person, not just one aspect of them.

I feel like good news will come in the mail this week :] I just have one of those good feelings! :shake:

You guys are getting my hopes up for this week as well...

Good luck to you all! =D

USNA

Hello all!
I was just wondering if anyone knew what the notification process would be for someone who has received a presidential nomination? I am still waiting for my letter in the mail (UGH!!!!!) and know that typically your nominating source notifies you before the Naval Academy does. Any help you guys could give would be so sincerely appreciated during this stressful and anxious time!!!!
Thanks

I know your pain! I received a presidential as well as an MOC and I was wondering that same thing. My friend last year who was appointed to USAFA received his appointment in late March and he had a presidential nom. It's killin me!(And probably you too!!)

You hear the same time that everyone else does, and yes I'm right there with you :[ Coming home every day from school excited and still nothing! BUT! I take it one day at a time, and each day I'm still excited for the next! Keep praying! God has everything in control! :shake:

Do you know how your friend recieved a notification? Like did he get his BFE in the mail and then get notified from the presidential source?

You won't receive notice of a Pres nom b/c everyone who is eligible gets one. They are non-competitive. So, if you applied for one and met the qualifications, you have one. If you're unsure, check with your BGO as it will show up on his/her system. I'm not sure if it shows up on CIS or not.

Note that having a Pres nom and being 3 Q'ed does NOT automatically translate into an appt. There are 100 slots for Pres nominees. Those with noms not receiving one of those slots go into a national pool from which others will receive appointments.

I applied for the presidential nom a couple months ago and it showed up on the CIS a few weeks later.

I feel your pain because im in the same boat. 3q'd with a congressman nom...waiting...waiting....waiting. I recently got waitlisted at one of my top choice civilian schools which really lowered m confidence a bit for USNA.

I also feel like the longer you wait, the smaller chance of getting accepted you have. Like the longer it takes the less slots are availiable.

I've already mentally prepared myself for rejection in the past few months, and I've got my plan B college all set up and im applying for more scholarships than you can count because I didn't get an NROTC scholarship. Although in the back of my mind I'm still hoping everyday I get an appt. to USNA :)

Phil, don't worry bro. I'm in the same situation: I'm still waiting for USNA and I was rejected from the NROTC early board. Just relax and get your mind off it. My app for USNA was also stronger than my app for NROTC, so you have nothing to worry about. Do you play a spring sport? If you do, go train. Watch movies. Study. Just get your mind off of it (it's better to be busy and pleasantly surprised with an appointment than to be weary and stalking the mailman). good luck man, let us know if/when you get it
