First, let me clarify, this is in no way a post that is in any way angry towards being rejected in years past for the STEM summer program, rather it is a message of hope to those who have been in the same boat and still hope to apply for an appointment to USNA.

Every year I was able to apply for STEM I did so. Within a week of the application opening every year, I had my application finished and sent in. I was dedicated to getting in. Yet, every year I received the same letter, "Dear applicant, I am sorry to inform you...". Fortunately, I stayed the course, was accepted to Summer Seminar, received an LOA, and, as of today, received a nomination which guarantees my appointment to USNA. So, my message to you, don't stop pursuing your dream of attending USNA if you were not accepted to STEM. Rather, use it as motivation to push harder to achieve the real goal, an appointment.

Congratulations on your accomplishment. Good luck to you at the USNA. Now, stay the course and use lots of bubble wrap.

    Congrats Architect! Great news!

For those lurkers on here looking at this process 1-4 years down the road, don't let acceptance one way or the other to STEM or SS get you down for not being selected or think they are tickets in the door. They are recruiting tools by USNA and seek certain candidates to expose either URM or certain geographic locations to USNA. It helps recruiting. This is why there are no points associated for attendance to STEM or SS in the candidate score. Also, some families just don't have the financial means for things like this and USNA does not want to penalize those in this situation for not being able to attend. For those who do get in, enjoy the experience and really think if USNA is the right place for you, but do not think this is an automatic ticket to an appointment.

Agreed ! My DS was rejected twice at STEM as well, and received his LOA on Friday.

Did STEM use to included higher middle school grades? This year it is only for High School grades.

Yes, rising 8th graders used to be included. This changed two years ago, I believe.
