Is it possible to transfer a scholarship to another school once the semster has started. I'd like to transfer in the spring.

First off, how is it that you already want out of there so soon? If it is you hate the school or the people there, maybe you should give it some time until you find your niche/group before jumping. It isn't uncommon for freshman having buyers remorse, only to get over it in a few more weeks.

Secondly, have you been accepted to the new school for spring semester?

I don't know which branch you are in. AFROTC scholarship is not tied to the school, it is tied to the cadet, so it shouldn't be an issue. A/NROTC are tied to the school, so my guess would be that you need approval from HQ to see if that school even has openings.

If you are A/NROTC did you ask for a scholarship transfer this past spring and get denied?

Yes a school transfer (AROTC) is possible
-Must be in good standing w/AROTC (GPA, PT, attendance etc)
-Both PMS's must approve it
-Must be accepted at new school
-Supposed to be easier between schools in the same Brigade
-Transferring to a significantly higher cost school will probably not get approved

*An AROTC cadre told me that transfers are only possible to schools that were on the original AROTC application, but I have never been able to verify that.

I would think that having a well thought out and rational explanation for the sudden change of heart would be a very good idea.

NROTC are tied to the school,
I don't think that is correct. I believe NROTC scholarships are applicable to any school in the Battalion/consortium... e.g. University of San Diego = Host. UCSD, Pt. Loma Nazarene, San Diego St., and a couple more schools are cross-town member schools to USD host. However, it is probably true that transferring from a Public within the consortium to a Private (USD, Pt. Loma) would be difficult indeed because it materially changes the budget for the consortium.

AFROTC, doesn't care if 0 or 100 cadets are on scholarship there because it is tied to the cadet. NROTC is like AROTC and the school must have room there for another scholarship cadet. They have specific numbers alloted by HQ for scholarships at each unit, hence tied to the school.

That is why they have the 5 school list and why you see in the spring recipients trying to change their scholarship from one school to another. The cadet is awarded a scholarship to XYZ school, and can be used ONLY at XYZ determined by HQ, you can't just up and decide to go to ABC especially if it was not on your list just because you decided you want to go somewhere else.

That is the huge difference on how AFROTC works compared to their sister services. AFROTC is transferrable to any college that accepts AFROTC scholarships.

Now I do agree that maybe you want to transfer to the host college from the X-town college, but in that case the BN will not change in size. However, the OP is not inferring that is the case, since they want to take the scholarship with them when they leave.
