Transpo officer

No, not at all, just trying to understand the baseline from which you're drawing your opinions. I did PTT, for what it's worth. I get the feeling you want to agree to disagree, so I'll finish with a case in point that's related to the OP's branch choice. A friend of mine was a 13 series. Got his al Qaeda marksmanship award from being on the receiving end of many IED. Got messed up so bad he eventually had to reclass. He got dinged up like this after his FA unit was retrained to drive HEMTs as 88M's in Iraq. Said the other tour he did as vanilla FA was nice and quiet.

Blah, blah, blah. Read the content of the thread. Think about what's being said. Does being a Doc who specializes in video game addiction make you less of an officer? Depends who you ask. Does it make you less of a warfighter? Absolutely. And warfighting is why we have an Army. Otherwise, we'd just let USAID do it.

That doesn't mean what you do isn't excellent and important. But that isn't the point officership. My car keeps me warm as hell, but I don't own a car because I needed to stay warm. Its purpose is to get me from A to B. I realize that's a heretical viewpoint, though the combat arms officers (Army and Marine) in this thread seem to get it.

FYI, the vast majority of soldiers killed by IEDs are (wait for it)...combat arms. The old "there are no front lines" schtik rings hollow.

The point is that if you want all the pay, benefit, and respect that comes with being an officer in this Army, you'd best be willing to take the fight to the enemy, not looking for an easier path (and if he doesn't think Transpo is easier, then what does he think makes his leadership style a "better fit"?). If he thinks he wouldn't be a good combat arms officer, but would be an effective leader in Transpo, he's telling us exactly what he thinks about Transpo, and it ain't praise.

My combat experience stems from being a 70B MEDEVAC Platoon Leader for an INF BDE. My sector was East Baghdad and Sadr City. I don't need you to "attempt" to educate me on IEDs. I've served in a tactical, administrative, and clinical role. Don't make assumptions...

Who are you to decide if a certain MOS/AOC makes someone less of an officer? FYI, I'm notable military alumni for 2 out of my 4 universities. I've been asked twice to be an instructor at the USMA (my wife hates cold weather). Yes, I do specialize in online video game addiction. However my "day job" is to assess and treat the pilots, air crew, support staff, and families of my aviation brigade.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we take the same oath? "Support and defend the constitution of the United States..." I'm doing my part "support". I assume you're doing your part "defend".

I sadly concur with a previous poster. Your continuous CS/CSS bashing exhibits traits of a toxic leader. I always try to see the positive aspects in people. You seem very knowledgable and experienced. I have great confidence you've helped future officers achieve their goals by sharing that knowledge and experience. I'm concerned about the cadets who choose or receive a branch that doesn't measure up to your standards. I can't change your views on CS/CSS branches; however I wish you would exercise restraint on your public contempt of your fellow officers.

You know, I re-read this whole thread just to make sure I hadn't said something I forgot. I can't find my "contempt for my fellow officers" in here. What I did say is that he should strive for combat arms because it's what USMA expects of him.

"Don't make assumptions"...from that guy who says he doesn't like my views on CSS branches so I must be a toxic leader. You don't actually know me and I don't know you. Let's leave it at that.
