Would anybody have historic data on the number of Presidential Nominees that are found triple qualified? Icing on the cake would be the number of those presidential nominees, found triple Q'd, who receive appointments! Thanks

A nomination is a nomination is a nomination. There is no advantage in a particular type. You need at least one and where it comes from is not important. The admissions office determines who gets an appointment not the nominating source, including Presidential.

Yes I am aware of that aspect. However, it is still possible for somebody to not be found triple qualified and still receive that nomination. The class of '18 profile reflects that >800 pres nominations were handed out. My question is how much of that figure was eliminated due to not being fully qualified.

If you are eligible for the nomination you are guaranteed to receive it. An unlimited amount of presidential nominations can be handed out, so being triple qualified has nothing to do with it.

My son(now a plebe) received the presidential nomination in early July, 2013.
I don't know at that point how anyone could determine if he was triple qualified as he had not submitted an official transcript, had not taken his CFA yet, nor had the DoDmerb process even been initiated.

So I guess technically he was not 3 Q'd when he received the Presidential nomination...but was deemed so when he received his appointment 4 months later. My understanding is the Presidential nomination is automatic if you meet its' requirements. Appointment is another story.

Also, I think USNA is limited to 100 appointments from the Presidential nominee pool. Not sure where I heard that-hope it's accurate.

So my guess is that there are indeed many more than 100 Presidential nominees 3Q'd who are not receiving appointments or are receiving appointments using a different nominating source. The Academy does stress, however, to seek out nominations from ALL nominating sources even if you already have a Presidential for example. Work every angle.

I think like 187 were given for this past class but only 100 are admitted, something like that.

I've never seen the stats re 3Q'ed Presidential nominees. I have heard anecdotally that there are many more qualified nominees than the 100 slots, but don't know the definition of "many."

As you undoubtedly know, the situation is more complicated than the original question. Those with Pres nominees who aren't slotted to the President still compete in the national pool and may be appointed and slotted to SecNav. Also, many Pres nominees have noms from other sources (e.g., MOC), so they could be 3Q'ed but slotted to another nom source.
