just found out i was turned down (waiver not even submitted because apparently "unwaiverable") for the Naval Academy because of eyesight exceeding 8 diopters.:( guess ill have to hope army takes me.

Army policy:

Current refractive error (hyperopia (367.0), myopia (367.1), astigmatism (367.2)), or history of refractive error prior to any refractive surgery manifest by any refractive error in spherical equivalent of worse than -8.00 or +8.00 diopters does not meet the standard. However, for entrance into USMA or Army ROTC programs, the following conditions do not meet the standard:

(1) Astigmatism, all types over 3 diopters.
(2) Hyperopia over 8.00 diopters spherical equivalent.
(3) Myopia over 8 diopters spherical equivalent.

Hopefully you're competitive for a waiver. Best of luck to you.

I have my medical exam coming up on Friday. I have bad eyesight but it is correctable to 20/20 with glasses/contacts. As long has my eyesight is 20/20 though, that is OK right? [ Sorry- don't really understand the terminology used in the posts!]

My eyesight is horrible(it is correctable to 20/20 though) and I didn't get any DQ's for my vision. I don't even know what myopia is, but I don't think it is related to whether your eyesight is correctable to 20/20 or not.

I am sorry to see that you did not even get the chance for consideration for the waiver. I am sure better things are meant for you. My DS is waiting to hear from USNA about the waiver for him, but we are not optimistic either and have started to focus on regular schools. Good Luck.
