I came home to a thin white envelope from Navy today. Thinking it was a rejection, I opened it up. Instead I got a waitlist to NAPS!!! I'm happy that it is not the end of the road. It is a pretty interesting letter. They want to see your current grades and they ask for any honors, awards, and recommendation letters that you would like to include to make your "packet" look more interesting. Thank God I kept my average high instead of slacking off. The only thing that is killing me is more waiting. The letter states that the earliest we can hear about the waitlist is mid May and the latest being mid July. Just posted this to see if anyone got waitlisted to NAPS and to show that there is still hope, even in a thin envelope!

Good luck, StateChamp145!

If you get NAPS, grab it. A year must seem like a long time @ your age, but NAPS is a fantastic leg-up @ the Academy, and you won't regret taking that route if offered.

Your attitude and work ethic sound terrific, and good luck in making your packet "more interesting." There's a certain amount of snarkiness on this site re: NAPS, and I hope you can ignore it. Trust USNA. They know what they want, and only a couple hundred are offered NAPS. You must be a special candidate.

My 1/C (white male, technically recruited athlete but for a sport he'd NEVER tried) had a great experience @ NAPS. Since then, he's validated classes, been consistently on the Superintendent's List, and is now studying for a master's degree through VGEP, a program offered to just 20 in a class of about 1,000. I credit his sainted BGO for recognizing his strengths, and I hope you've had an equally wonderful one.

Sorry this isn't what you were looking for -- another waitlisted NAPS candidate -- but just wanted to give you a big thumbs up and congratulations. Of the thousands of applicants, you were selected as one of a couple hundred potential NAPSters. Good for you!

The letter states that they had over 19,100 apps.

I would take NAPS in a hearbeat. USNA is what I have been working for this whole year and I have heard some great "reviews" about NAPS and the candidates that got NAPS from my high school and went all said they are happy they chose NAPS.

I know NAPS is a great opportunity, but If I don't get off the wait list, at my college, Im going to be in Texas A&M's Corps of Cadets so Ill still be an officer some day. As I've read somewhere on here, "the mission is the commission".
