TWE

DS had mostly average PFT scores. A little above on basketball throw (82) and low on pull ups (7). The rest were right around average.

Interesting about the recommendations. Sometimes people say things they think are neutral but can come out negative when read by others, especially when compared to all the superstars applying. We were a little concerned about his calc teacher as he was brand new, right out of graduate school and had never written a recommendation before.

Oh well, time to move on and get ready for next year. For anyone else thinking of reappying there is a sticky on the usna forum, that gives a lot of good tips.

Thanks everyone. We hope everyone still waiting gets good news this week! Maybe we'll see you at I day next year.

Have they announced Falcon Foundation scholarships yet? They are also a great opportunity! Many Cadets get their appointments on the second try, after a year of college. There are advantages to entering the Academy after a year of college. If USAFA is his dream school, don't give up!

Keep your head up and don't give up! I will be 22 years old once BCT starts in June. Make the most of the opportunities available.

Fun fact, when I was a senior in high school, I applied for an AFROTC Scholarship and was denied. Now, almost four years later, I received an appointment to the Air Force Academy!

Do your best to keep a positive attitude throughout this entire process. This is not the end of the world! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or concerns.

Plan B

Don't lose hope on your dreams! My son received his TWE, oh, so many years ago now. He was told to reapply because of his "good" resume but took his scholarship and headed for four years at Notre Dame. He graduated in May with degree in EE with Nano tech and renewable energy. Did not take his last OrganicChem 2 class for premed because he had received a pilot slot and well, time. He is now a student in ENJJPT. It was the hard way of going but it can be done. Chin up and fight for that dream! :thumb:

Falcon Foundation and NWP

A couple years ago I was in the same situation. Well qualified just not enough spots in the class of 2016 for me! It was crushing news but everything changed when I got a letter from the Falcon Foundation program that someone mentioned earlier in the thread!

The Falcon Foundation is a program that gives scholarships to 60-100 candidates who got the TWE but showed potential for them to go to one of eight prep schools for a year and then they will **most likely** receive an appointment the next year. I say most likely because it is dependent on success at the prep schools, however I know only a couple people who did not receive an appointment after being a Falcon Foundation scholar.

After researching all of the prep school options I chose Northwestern Preparatory School in southern California because of their history of excellence and their dedication to their students. NWP is only a semester long which allows students to go to "regular" college for the spring semester to get experience with a "real college course load." NWP is solely dedicated to sending prospective cadets and mids to service academies and the staff and other students become like family.

Additionally, you do not have to be a sponsored Falcon Foundation scholar to go there! Your son sounds like he might be a good candidate for the scholarship but if he does not receive one, more than half of my class at NWP was a self-prep or "free agent." These students are not guaranteed a spot in the next class however NWP does a fantastic job of getting these students ready and there were just as many free agents as there were falcon scholars at I-day from my NWP class.

A really great experience that I would suggest you look into!!

If a Falcon Foundation scholarship is offered, which schools sponsor this scholarship?
