Two boys from the same town?

Yesterday our son attended a photo op./press release event with his MOC. Out of 7 service academy nominations there were 4 nominations to USNA and one already had an offer of appointment. Our son only has this one nomination so I felt this reduced his chances greatly. My question is if this appointee was linked to this particular MOC and if the MOC is under the maximum number allowed can there be more than 1 in the same class? I still see lower odds in this.

There can be several from this MOC's slate in this class... one of the things that happens to 3Q'd candidates is that they go into a qualified alternate pool. That pool is used to fill in the slots that are vacant from various sources; eg, dropouts, slates with no qualified candidates, slates where no candidates accept an offer, slates from areas where there is no interest/knowledge of USNA, areas where the MOC doesn't believe in the military and doesn't nominate anyone. Also, bear in mind that every MOC is permitted to have 5 candidates at each of the DOD academies. As things are going this cycle, my local MOC will have at least 5 of his noms receiving offers to USNA.

I went to my MOC's brunch a few days ago. There were about 6 noms to USNA and two had appointments. Usually, the LOAs are not charged to the MOC so your son still has a good chance. Like 1964BGO said, keep in mind the alternate pool. Many people are offered appointments from the pool. Hang in there and good luck!

Thank you 1964BGO and USNASWIM14. I had no idea how complicated this whole process is. Our candidate got more excited when he found out about the others offer of appointment. Said he likes it when his "back is against the wall" and the odds are tougher. Strange kid that only a mother could love I guess.
