Hello all. Two quick questions on Boys State. I'm going to be a junior this fall, so want to get some more information on the program. I have not been able to find answers to these questions on the Boys State website. Thanks for any input.

    1) If I live in one state but attend high school in another state, which state's Boys State program do I attend?

    2) Is there a specific number of students each school sends to the program? Or does it depend completely on how the school wants to handle the process?

Not sure about your first question, would guess it could be either.

For your second question, my DS didn't go through his high school, he applied directly to the American Legion for sponsorship. You also don't need sponsorship, you can pay the fee and register yourself.

Ds loved it and hopes to go back and be a counselor.

I am also not sure about question 1 but for your other question suggest you contact your local American Legion Post and ask them about Boys State slots. Our American Legion Post immediately gave DS sponsorship and paid all registration fees. Afterwards DS attended one of their monthly meetings and spoke about his experience. The deadline for registration a year ago was the end of March.

I know this wasn't your exact question but I would encourage you to definitely attend Boys state. I've already had two of my boys go through it and they both are as different as can be and both absolutely loved it there, as did their friends who went.

The answer to #2 varies quite a bit. My son attended last year. For his school, the Legion pays for the transportation to the state capital but not the registration fee. The AL would pay for up to five transpo fees but the school chipped in for just one registration fee. In the end, three went - one the school paid for and the other two got alternate funding. My assumption would be that, if you go to a school where the AL pays for the whole thing, the number would be more limited.

    Grizzly,

Below is the link for boys and girls state. It is held in high regard, when a student applies to this program and gets in. My son attended six years, ago. It helped him get a scholarship. Best of luck.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like #2 really just depends on the school/local AL post and I'll get an answer to it later this year. It also seems that nobody here can answer #1, I guess I'll have to ask my AP Gov. teacher about that one once school starts back up this fall. I've heard nothing but positive remarks about the program; look forward to attending next summer (fingers crossed).
