Hello, I'm just trying to understand how the process works for NG. My son was not selected for AD. He was not too happy about that, but realizes he quickly needs to adjust to plan B. I'm confused on how he chooses his unit and where, without knowing where he will work. He goes to school in NYC, has a potential job in CT but not 100% sure if he will get it. Says he needed to choose a unit or else he would be placed somewhere he didn't want to be, so he chose CA which is where 'home' is for him. IF he gets the job in CT how easy or hard is it to transfer to a different state?
Is it at all possible to go from National Guard to Active Duty at some point in his career?

That is something that is technically possible but not very probable during this time of drawdown in the military. As far as down the road in a few years, nobody knows what will happen.

Your son may want to look into seeing if there are any full time Guard/Reserve positions at any of the units he is looking at.
