I have only read about it a few times and was really curious...

What percent of applicants apply to more than one academy?

    And even still,

What percent of applicants are admitted/appointed to more than one academy?

Thought it would be interesting to hear how many of you guys were in this boat...

I applied to naval academy, air force academy, and military academy. I only had the chance to be nominated to air force and west point, received both nominations and appointments. I chose usma (obvious choice in my opinion)

Its tough to apply to more than one SA because each application requires a separate nomination...in my case it was impossible for me to apply to any more than one :frown:. One of my senators denied me a nom and some congressmen/women sometimes do not award nominations to candidates who already have been given one by another congressperson from their state (which was the case with my rep). I got my only nom from my other senator. I was really looking forward to finishing my app to USNA but it was not to be :\

I applied to USMA, USAFA, USCGA, and USMMA. Accepted to USMA, USCGA, USSMA. Got a nomination to USAFA but did not complete the file. I applied to many because I do not come from a big military background, so I wanted to keep my options open until I made my choice of branch.

I applied and was accepted to both USMA and USNA. Chose Army because it was a much better fit for me. Go Army beat Navy!

I applied to USMA and USCGA. I was appointed to USMA, but never finished my USCGA app.

I applied to USMA USNA and USCGA. I was accepted to USCGA and obviously USMA. It was a pretty difficult decision to make.

I had my heart set on going to USNA and got a LoA, but then DoDMERB'd out. I then decided to apply to USMA and USAFA too and received appointments to both. I decided to attend USMA.

    not as hard

i applied to usna and usma and received appointments to both. during the decision process i was contacted multiple times by usafa and uscga basically begging me to finish their applications.

in my opinion, if you can get admitted to navy or army you can get admitted to any of the other three (usafa, cga, mma). it seems as though usma and usna are definitely the most difficult to received appointments to.

also, in regard to an earlier post concerning the difficulty of recieving nominations to more than one: during my nomination process, i was offered a double nomination from one congressman. they have seats to nominate people for at each academy, so if they dont have alot of applicants for one they can easily nominate someone they nominated to another academy as well. all you have to do is ask.

Your anecdotal evidence is meaningless (and incorrect) as I can produce multiple appointees who were accepted at USNA and/or USMA and rejected from USCGA and/or USAFA.

Someone as humble as yourself should be aware of that.

    obviously there will be exceptions.

furthermore, being rejected from afa or cga doesn't really prove the candidates weren't qualified. i myself received a "letter of rejection" from afa a bit ago. it stated that my incomplete application was the reason. so, being appointed to usma or usna and not uscga or usafa doesn't necessarily mean they weren't qualified for the latter.
