If I were to apply for a Congressional Nomination now (I am a Junior), and send in the completed letter, would I be able to somehow update that application if I was given a leadership position or some other honor after I had already sent in the letter? If so, how? Would I simply send in another letter, stating: "Since I wrote my last letter, I was honored with XYZ."?
Also, I know they are still processing recommendations for the Class of 2018, so what is the earliest date I could send in an application?

There is no need to send in the application for a nomination so early! Unlike the West Point application, it doesn't matter if you get it in early, they will review them only after the deadline. My advice to you, wait. Get your package together, (this takes a while, trust me) and then send it in. Buy some nice paper for your essays and resume. Organize the information in a folder with tabs. (the board complimented me for that) And get your best test scores complied. THEN send your package in after you're sure. You should still be able to update your file after you send it in, but it's sometimes a hassle.

As for the West Point application, it should open March 1st. Good luck! Make sure you attend Boys State by the way!:thumb:

+1 Coltron. Also, some MOC's will host an information session in their area for the seniors in high school. In our area, it is held in the spring. You could contact your MOC's and ask if they do this and when the event is held, if so. You could also write a letter of interest and introduce yourself.

Otherwise, you should start watching for the 2019 application to come online for your MOC's. Our MOC's have taken off the link for the 2018 application, and there is no way to even access any application now.

Also, most MOC's will close their applications around Oct/Nov timeframe, so if you do some of the things that Coltron advised, you will have plenty of time to make a stronger packet. :thumb:

Definitely try to find out about this for your area. These sessions are very helpful and will answer a lot of your questions. As for updating info, call the MOC's office and ask what they would prefer. My congressman wanted me to bring the updated material to my interview while one of my senators told me to send it in. Every MOC's policy is different so if you are unsure about anything during the process, just call their office for help.
