I noticed that US Airways now services Colorado Springs Airport, maybe due to the merger with American who has always been there. Our cadet has usually had to use United Airlines, and they're always over priced from there, so this is probably a good thing, from what I've seen in the rates so far.

Denver is usually going to be cheaper for everywhere. If you can make it up there, it's actually pretty convenient.

Agreed on more money. Also, at least out our way, using COS means double connecting flights as opposed to just one with Denver.

I agree that Denver is usually cheaper, but not always so be sure to check. I was just looking at prices this morning for Parent's week-end. We are taking our DS's car to him and then flying home. I found flights from Denver for $200 and the flight from COS, that stops in Denver and then continues on the same $200 flight from Denver is actually $174.60. How much sense does that make? Our DS will be able to drop us off at the COS airport rather than driving to Denver and we save $25.40 apiece on the flight.

Yep, we've flown into Denver every time during the past two years; much cheaper; however, due to weather concerns, I always fly my son out of COS, just in case weather between the two cities isn't too good. United will fly him directly home, no stops, but they're so expensive. Would love to see Southwest come into COS and really shake that place up.

I'm also planning on coming to Colorado for parent's weekend. Can anyone tell me how far away is it from Denver to Colorado Springs (in driving time)?

I think when DD went to DVP, her travel time was about 12 hrs (not counting time zones), and I think she landed in Denver.

It has been a long time since I have driven in the Lower '48 with multiple lane highways, heavy traffic, multiple exits, etc. Plus it will get dark in the evenings in Colorado - something we don't have to deal with in Alaska @ that time of year.
Alaska has only 1 highway, so it is hard to get lost & our only hwy has just 2 lanes. I'm a little nervous about driving down there

Alaska mom, the drive from Denver is just over an hour, all highway, not just one, but not too difficult to navigate. At least i can say in September the weather won't be snow.

Make sure to take the toll road, though, otherwise it takes longer.

There is a shuttle service from Denver to Colorado Springs. I have never used it, but it is an option. The website is coloradoshuttle.com. You could consider renting a car in the Springs, for just the local driving, see how it feels, then decide whether or not to try driving to Denver. The highways are pretty wide open, and you can bypass the city if you'd like.
