Easier EVERYTHING! I don't know what AFB is like, but I love having the ability to see everything online, whenever I need it. Beyond that there are lots of little things, like paying bills online, transfering money to friends with USAA using the mobile app (super awesome for weekends like ring dance, 100s night, when one person pays for a reservation), mobile deposit (so checks don't pile up) etc. I also love their customer service and have never had a problem. I have my checking, savings and credit card accounts through them, as well as a CD, homeowners insurance, personal property insurance, and my mortgage. It is just nice to have everything all in one place and easily accessible. You can also use any ATM and they will refund the transaction charge (super nice when you are travelling a lot). I am sure other will chime in, but those are the things that stick out to me. Oh, and not that it matters as a cadet, but when you PCS, they will drop your credit card rate considerably (I don't remember exactly) for 6 months to help cover unexpected moving costs :)

My daughter (a just graduated 2 Lt.) , like many others, switched to USAA when she took her loan 2nd class year. As I recall, the switch was required at that point as part of the loan process. Being with USAA, allows her now to consolidate her investment statement (investments with USAA), her debit card, her renter's insurance, etc. all on one website, with one company.

I can say from experience that USAA is ten times better than AFB. As Buffalo said, have your DS login to https://mypay.dfas.mil/mypay.aspx and change the account to which his pay is being deposited.

It works really well for transferring money to your parents account for your cell phone bill, too!:shake:

USAA has great auto insurance rates as well; saved my DS over $500 a year from previsous carrier. Also they waive the fee for under 25 to rent a car, which has come in handy on more than one occassion

Parents, don't let Stealth imply that you have to cut your cadet from the plan! Remember free college!!!

you got me excited here, you mean cadets will want to pay there own cell bill. So if my DD gets in I will be able to finally buy that corvette I wanted with the savings from the data plan she has.

Just kidding, my kids dont have a data plan and I make them pay for texting. She keeps telling me how she will need a iphone if she makes it in, I keep telling her phone she has had for 5 years is fine.
