USAF Thunderbird crashes

scoutpilot can't even 'fly' his Computer without posting the wrong link.

He went so far as to later disparage the very article he had been reading (and mistakenly posted) to just cover himself.
Next you'll tell me I have cooties.

Seriously? - Several of our military folks died today and y'all just want to bicker and insult each other. You are acting like children. Do you need to be put in time-out or can we get back to the topic of this thread.

A tragic day indeed for three of our Nation's services. Thoughts and prayers for their families, friends, and squad mates.

A toast, and another Nickel on the grass....

Yes, a tragic day indeed..#6 Blue Angel was a young Marine captain.
My DS wants to fly. I am always hoping for more fundings to go towards upgrades for the aircrafts our pilots fly.

WOW! A thread that should be addressing thoughts and prayers for the pilot who lost his life and accolades to both for directing their aircraft to areas so no civilian casualties occurred has now become an argumentative thread.

Both pilots should be commended on their ability to put the aircraft "down" in a safe area; one who managed to do this an eject safely seconds before the crash, and one who was not so fortunate, but maintained "service over self" to the end.

In the upcoming months, the investigation will reveal the true causes of the crashes, and the final report that will be available publicly will only touch the surface of the true cause. I have had the opportunity in the past to be part of a military AIB; luckily one in which no life was lost, only a very expensive aircraft. I learned a lot about the process, the people, the aircraft, as well as the Freedom of Information Act. Unfortunately, the investigations seem to always start out as "witch hunts" by the safety investigation to blame one or more individuals. I can only hope that both pilots are cleared as well as the maintenance folks who try their best to maintain aging aircraft with the limited funds available.

I have not personally found the post-accident investigation to start out as witch hunts. That may be the case in other instances though. Certainly there will be some cause found, whether pilot error, component failure, or maintenance practices. I'm certain all the maintainers are racked with guilt this morning, as they so often are after a mysterious crash. Time will tell.

My best friend from USNA was a Blue so I got to spend 3 years watching the inner workings of the team. What they do is amazing. The trust they put in one another every time they go up cannot be understated. The spouses attend the majority of the shows and are very close. The Capt had a wife and 2 kids. They all live in the same area of base housing in Pensacola. Thursday is the normal time for the Blues to arrive on site, conduct circle and arrival and then do their first practice. Most spouses will come on up Thurs or Fri for the shows. And most do attend many of the shows. More than likely they had a CACO dispatched from the command there immediately, but with social media and tv coverage the media probably beat the CACO. Hopefully she was at least surrounded with support.

Although the Blues fly older aircraft they have access to more parts than nearly anyone else out there. Those planes are extremely well maintained. They also modify those planes so it's not as easy as swapping a regular 18 around. All military units are very professional and the Blues might be the definition of it. They will mourn, celebrate and honor their friend and team mate. They will take some time off, more than likely bring back a former solo pilot, practice and regain their focus. I wish his family the best during these horrible times.

It is a crying shame these Teams get the oldest planes to fly.

The Maintenance crews are magicians.

Not true in the case of the Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds fly Block 52 aircraft, which is the newest block of F-16 airframes flown by the USAF and were manufactured between 1992 and 1996. In contrast, my son flies Block 30 jets built between 1986 and 1988.

Keeping the families in our prayers.

Did @murfthesurf get banned for the couple comments he made on this thread? Seriously? He has been contributing so much on the forum, shouldn't he be given a "verbal counseling" like in the real Navy before action is taken against him though?

Just my 02 cents.

Normally discussions of infractions are kept private unless initiated in public by the poster.

There are points assessed with each infraction, and also an expiration period for those points. A poster will generally not be banned for a first or even second offense unless it is particularly serious. However, points add up and some carry over. Each infraction is accompanied by a PM discussion of what the points assessed are and specifically what the violation was that led to it. Bottom line is that when someone gets banned, it should not be a surprise to them. Unless you're a spammer. I hate spammers.

@Stealth_81, pardon my ignorance as I have only been here for three months. For my own education, and maybe also for a few others, did Murf

1. commit offends elsewhere before, that combined with his posts on this thread, triggered his ban, or

2. get banned by his posts on this threads alone, and

3. the PM discussions you mentioned, are they sent between Mods and posters or are they only sent between Mods, and lastly,

4. is there a list of point assessment posted somewhere I can look up?

If YOU receive an infraction you will know about it.

If YOU don't receive an infraction, there is nothing else for you to worry about.

The rules of the forums are shown when you register, and can be viewed with the general posting rules in the stickies at the top of each forum. If you follow the rules, there is nothing to be concerned about. It's pretty simple.

Thanks, Stealth. I think Scout also "helped" by showing what a spam looks like, or what a long time poster can get away with, or both?
