Is anyone interested in starting a list of AFA 2014 Parents who want to connect :welcome1:and support each other as we plan for Orientation, I-Day and all the adventures that lie ahead? We could use this thread and/or PM to ask questions :help:, make friends :beer1:, offer support, help our kids connect so they have a few friends before I-Day, brag a bit about our amazing future cadets :angel:, meet up with each other at USAFA events :groupwave:, etc. Maybe start an official group on here? If interested add your info below, thanks!

FWIW, NAPS selected parents took this off the forum thread to a FaceBook Group. You guys may want to consider that too. Only a suggestion though.
 
There is already a site set up that models the previous classes on yahoo groups. Here is the link:

The previous classes 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 have very strong groups where they plan a ton of things for all 4 years. It will be mostly parents from the Class of 2014 and a few upper class parents to guide and moderate.

There another group that is also very active and it contains members from all across the board:

Last, the AOG (Association of Graduates) has a site that you will receive information about in the appointment package I believe. The main benefit of this will be "Webguy". Webguy will become your very favorite person while our kids are going through basic.

I hope that this helps. I would not recommend using this forum as it doesn't allow the privacy that you will need in the future.

There is a 2014 Parents Group (Invite only and private to parents) set up already in the www.usafacommunity.com in the social groups section of the site.

It is total USAFA community inter action with Smaller Groups set up for each class, squadron, IC teams , Etc.

All class are represented. Along with Cadets, Candidates, and Grads.

There is Also a 2014 Candidate Group that has been created by one of the Candidates for all Candidates, including preppies, Appointees etc..
A great way to get to know each other before you step onto the Bus for BCT. Here is link with the Group info

OK, so not being a computer savy person...I attempted to try out another Forum so I could keep up with "news"!!!
But, although I did sign up...that was the easiest part.....the rest of the instructions were a complete BLURR to me :confused: so I guess I shall just be sticking to this forum and regular old e-mail.
Call me old fashioned...but I like to keep it simple :smile:

Thanks to all those who put their names on the list so far, and to those who let us know about the other groups and forums. It doesn't look like there's been any posts on the Yahoo Group since last year and not many members. The USAFA forum looks interesting but so far for me it's been confusing trying to figure out how to use it, much more complex than this site.

I have sent a PM to every person who added their name to this list and some of those have already become new friends! It's really nice to meet a few people to have conversations with who know exactly what your appointee (and whole famliy!) has gone through and who are looking ahead to the same adventure.

If you haven't already you might want to send a PM to some of the other parents on this list and make some new connections!

The yahoo group was set up in advance of the class of 2014 coming onboard. The members you see on that group right now are mainly upperclass parents waiting for the new parents to join. It's hasn't been possible for it to be active when there haven't been many appointments made. Remember that out of a class size of 1300ish there aren't many parents on this forum either. No site is perfect and folks will like one site over another for various different reasons. I'm not promoting any site over another, each parent will have to decide which site is best for them. I can just about guarantee you will like the AOG site the best this summer when webguy is loading thousands of pictures each day. He will be the only one with direct access to our basic cadets.

Service Academy forum is fantastic during the application process and the waiting period.

2014 Yahoo group will be class specific.

USAFA group will incorporate all classes.

AOG forum and webguy will be extremely active during the summer and will drop off after Acceptance Day and Parent's weekend.

Lots of sources all great.

Thanks for the advice. I have spent a good day on the AFA site, and found the forum hard to find my way around (can't seem to spell manouver?). But it does seem like it will be a great place for info. I am very excited to finally have found out where "webguy" is. I read alot about "him" earlier and wondered how to connect with that site.
