    Hello everyone

I would like to know what routes the Air Force Academy provide to those who want to be in AFSOC? It has been my dream to become a special operator in either the Air Force or Navy, as well as be an officer. I know that there are options to become STO/CRO, but are there any others? Also, what exactly is a Special Tactics Officer? I know that CRO is basically an officer PJ (correct me if I am wrong).

It seems to me that there are more options in the SpecOps field for enlisted members, but as I mentioned, I would like to be an officer to be able to lead people. I know that AFSOC or NAVSOC is what I want to do. Thank you.

    STO info

    Devgru,

I am a junior currently at USAFA trying to gain entry into the STO field and I think I can help you out. At USAFA the primary options if you're not flying for AFSOC is STO/CRO. Below is the official Air Force job description for the bare minimums that a STO is expected to do. Feel free to shoot anymore questions you have my way. Best of luck to you!

FYI, and with all due respect, I don't think it's a good idea having your username as DEVGRU, seeing that you are not a member of DEVGRU, nor have you graduated BUD/S or SQT or are a member of the Navy. Even if you were in the Navy, it still wouldn't be a good idea.

    Dagger,

I respect you for telling me that. As I said in another thread: "I have talked to special operators before (SEALs) and have heard their stories, and I understand why they put so much emphasis on the earning part - as it is a very big deal. I do not mean to offend anyone in the brotherhood by having such a name and avatar, I just aspire to become an operator one day, that is all. Again, sorry if I offended anyone."

    Scoutpilot,

I don't see why you are hating so much on me. I obviously have a dream to serve in the SpecOps community. Haven't you seen other people with usernames such as 2016USAFA or pilot2b? Everyone has a different dream, and I ask that you respect mine.

He isn't even being that offensive to you. People with names such as pilot2b or 2016USAFA are acknowledging that it is their goal to become a member of the class of 2016 or to become a pilot. Having the goal of becoming a member of the elite non-existent SEAL Team 6 (aka DevGru) before you've even joined the military, graduated basic training, completed BUD/S, completed SQT, completed an additional year of extra training, been on a few deployments for them to even look at you being selected for DevGru-- is waaay toooo far down the line.

I have friends in both Naval Special Warfare and AFSOC, and the biggest piece of advice I've heard them give is to focus only on your current obstacle during training. Not the future. If you look too far ahead when sh*t is getting tough you'll lose focus and fail.

Please note, I am NOT in any type of Special Operation career field. I am only on Active Duty in the USAF.

And if Scoutpilot truly offended you, you are going to have a very rough time getting through Boot Camp....

    Hi all.

I want to be a STO in the future as well, but I think this thread has gone in the wrong direction.

Notice that I use the name "pilot2b" as opposed to say, F35pilot or some similar username...

The OP isn't being rude or disrespectful. He was just asking a question. No need to start an argument over his forum username.

I think you're confusing a reality check with "hating." Those of us in the SOF community do not look kindly on the use of our terms and titles flippantly. The sacrifice it takes to become a functional member of this world mean that we take our titles and affiliations seriously. Our gentlemen whose title you're using would not take kindly to it. You can learn the lesson the easy way or the hard way. It's your choice. Even using unclass terms is a sensitive issue. Just getting you on the right track to start.
