Jamil D. Cooks, a junior, was charged Sept. 18 with attempted sodomy, aggravated sexual assault and two specifications of aggravated sexual contact.
A squadron commander ordered Cooks into pre-trial confinement due to “a new allegation of misconduct in violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice,” according to a news release from the academy. The nature of the alleged misconduct was not immediately clear. The Air Force Office of Special Investigations is investigating, the release said.
The commander sent Cooks to a detention center “to preclude any potential threat to himself or others,” the release said.
Cooks is one of five academy cadets accused of sexual misconduct since January, although the case against one was dropped. Another ended in a conviction. Three others, including Cook’s, are ongoing.
An Article 32 hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to send Cooks’ case to court-martial is scheduled for Dec. 18.
