At what point during a Cadet's tenure at USAFA is a class ranking established? I understand the inputs can include Academics, Physical, and Military Performance, and possibly overall BCT performance for a 4*. Anyone know the weight of each and who has inputs to each? Do professors (especially the military ones) provide any feedback (besides academic grades) of military performance and, if so, how? Other comments/insights?

Class rankings come out at every grade report.

don't know the answers to the other questions, other than the academics is what is the highest % of the OPA. 65% I believe.

From the USAFA Curriculum Handbook 2009-2010:

4-10. OVERALL PERFORMANCE AVERAGE (OPA). The graduation class standing is based on cadet cumulative Overall Performance Average (OPA). Beginning with the Class of 2009, OPA is the weighted combination of 60% cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA), 30% cumulative Military Performance Average (MPA), and 10% cumulative Physical Education Average (PEA). The top 10% are selected Distinguished Graduates. GPA normally includes Phy Ed grades. For the calculation of OPA, Phy Ed grades are removed from the cum GPA.
OPA = 60% GPA + 30% MPA + 10% PEA

Here is a link to the Curriculum Handbook from the USAFA.edu website. I saved it to my computer and have referred to it a gazillion times already. It will tell you how honor lists are figured, core couses, degree plans, etc.

They will get class rankings as early as their first progress reports at mid-semester of their 4 dig year. Also, invites will go out for the USAFA Scholars program based on those progress report grades and their application file to USAFA.

The military performance average (MPA) is graded by your peers, superiors, subordinates (not as a fourth-classman, obviously), AOC, AMTs, and academic instructors. The other large portion of your score is from Commissioning Education class (formerly CPME) and as a fourth-classman your weekly knowledge requirements.
